10 Great Ways to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Just how do you reduce your carbon footprint and make a difference to improving your environment? Here are some great practical tips you can try.
- Do your shopping once a week. This way, you’ll just need to make a single trip to the supermarket on a weekly basis.
- Shop on a full stomach. That way, you won’t be tempted to buy things you are craving for at that moment. Make a shopping list and stick to it. Want not, waste not.
- Drive only if you must. Otherwise, walk, ride a bicycle, take a bus or car pool.
- Plan your route so that you can get from one point to the other in the shortest distance. You save on petrol, time and unnecessary carbon emission.
- Even in the standby mode, appliances consume electricity. Switch off the main plugs of your electrical appliances when not in use.
- Other than the CPU, also remember switch off the screen and the speakers of your desktop computer. A simple action like this can go a long way.
- Cut down on electricity usage. Get a manual toothbrush instead of an electric one. That goes for shavers too.
- Don’t use the TV or the radio as background noise. If you’re not watching or listening, switch them off. Read a book instead.
- Head down to the library and borrow a book. Think about it. It’s really a great community recycling project. Plus if you have books you don’t want anymore, why not donate it to the library instead of just leaving them around or throwing them away.
- Start a garden. If you don’t have space, keep indoor plants. They absorb CO2 and brighten up your home.
