Alcohol Causes Affairs

Since alcohol causes affairs, stop drinking alcohol.

A wife has drinks with friends once a week. This adventure lasts past midnight. One day, the wife leaves divorce papers for her husband. The husband’s attorney soon discovers the wife is having an affair. The husband is shocked. Well, what does he expect? Alcohol dims reasoning ability and increases desire.

Spouses that claim they have never cheated; yet drink alcohol may be mistaken. Suppose he goes bowling, has a few drinks, chats with a friend and they end up doing it in the parking lot? After driving home, he blacks out and remembers nothing from the previous night.  Was there an affair? Yes. However, when asked about an affair, he swears nothing happened. Alcohol destroys brain cells, especially memory cells. How can he possibly remember what happened last night?

If both spouses rarely drink alcohol, the chances of an affair are even higher. The toleration level for an occasional drinker is low. Intoxication occurs fast with folks who rarely drink. Wine with dinner at a friend’s home can easily escalate into a forgotten affair.

Continuing to drink alcohol is fine but give up the tired view of maintaining an exclusive relationship. Get real and embrace multiple partners. Relationships and marriages will last longer.

If couples expect monogamy, both spouses must quit drinking alcohol immediately. Leave hints at home such as a brochure from Alcoholics Anonymous and articles about the hazards of alcohol abuse. Grab every ounce of alcohol in the home, and take the bottles to a recycling bin. Leave, “Quit Drinking” signs everywhere the bottles are removed. If all else fails, seek counseling.

Prevent dishonesty.   End alcohol consumption today.
