Thought man rules the earth, animals also should be cared for. They are helpless, yet they help us so many ways. On a rainy day captain Sundaram rescued two pups were struggling to stay afloat in the road. He took them home and this marked the beginning of the organization. Blue cross of India was started in 1964 to protect animals.

Blue cross has ambulance to rescue injured animals and animals that have undergone cruelty. Animals exploited for work or entertainment are rescued by the blue cross and kept in shelters. All animals free treatment so that none would be deprived of medicine due to lack of money.

Today, blue cross has largest animal shelters in India symbolizing love and care towards voiceless animals. The other agencies that also care for animals are-

• Animal welfare board of India
• People for animals
• Society for prevention of cruelty to animals

The chief function of all the animal heath care agencies is that all animals, weather domesticated or wild, be protected from cruelty.       

Although the central and state governments have several welfare schemes for people to fight illness and diseases, it is very difficult to teach ignorant people who still follow superstitions to cure diseases. Many people die due to lack of proper treatment. Illiterate people believe that a disease is God’s curse, and go to devil removers to get rid of ailments. They do not understand the importance of immunization and medical treatment for diseases. They believe that performing animal sacrifices will cure illness. Unfortunately, it does not, so both the animal and human patient die unnecessary cruel deaths.

Education is very essential for the development of disease free country.

We should also care for animals, for it is their world too.

Caring fellow human beings and animals makes us good human beings.
