Breast Cancer Awareness Events in Colorado Springs

If you live in Colorado Springs and want to join in the fight against breast cancer, there are six events and promotions happening in southeastern Colorado during September, October and November.

Affecting more than 1.3 million women worldwide annually, breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in the United States. If you live in Colorado Springs and want to join in the fight against this disease that touches so many lives, there are six events and promotions happening in southeastern Colorado during September, October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month) and November.

Survivors Luncheon and Fashion Show

What: Survivors get in free when they register as survivors to this luncheon and fashion show. Space is limited, and the registration deadline is Oct. 9 on the Komen Southeastern Colorado site.

Where: First Presbyterian Church, Stevens Hall, 219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903

When: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Oct. 16

Free Whitening at the office of Dr. Michael W. Shields, DDS

What: During October and November, Dr. Shields will give a free teeth whitening at his office to anyone making a $100 donation to the Komen Southeastern Colorado Affiliate.

When: Entire months of October and November

Pink Ribbon Pie at Village Inn

What: During the month of October, Village Inn Restaurants will be selling Pink Ribbon French Silk Pies for $11.99, and $1 of that will be donated to the Southeastern Colorado Komen Affiliate. The pie is a classic French Silk pie with a pink ribbon pick and pink ribbon sprinkles.

Where:  Village Inn Restaurants, various locations in southeastern Colorado – see Village Inn site for locations.

When: Entire month of October

Stampin’ for a Cure

What: Enjoy two sessions of card and papercraft making, food, door prizes and a silent auction at this annual event. Attendees can make six stamped projects for $25 per person per session. All proceeds go to the Southeastern Colorado Komen Affiliate.

When: 9 a.m. – noon and 1 – 4 p.m. Oct. 2

Volley for the Cure

What: Wear pink to the Air Force-San Diego State volleyball game, and you’ll get in for free at Volley for the Cure, an annual volleyball tournament with proceeds going to breast cancer research.

When: 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21

Colorado Springs Women’s Living Expo

What: This fashion show and auction features breast cancer survivors as models, and their outfits (donated by Macy’s) will be auctioned off. The Southeastern Colorado Komen Affiliate will receive all of the proceeds from the event. Plus, all 2010 Race for the Cure participants will receive discounted admission, and all attendees at the 2010 Survivor Luncheon will get in for free.
