Environment Changes and What We Can Do to Prevent Them

A speech on environmental changes and how to prevent them.
*This is also an example on how to write a successful speech for COM100.

Earth is constantly changing. Much of that change is a natural process that the earth has been going through for millions of years. But there are also devastation changes that we have been causing thanks to our irresponsibility with thrash. That’s why it is important that everyone does their part to properly dispose of trash, uses alternative modes of transportation, and also recycles.

Grocery bags are a big issue. Especially because all stores offer plastic bags to their customers. Not only do these bags pose a threat to infants and pets, but they also take up to 500 years or more to decompose in waste fields. Other than that, they also contribute to global warming by releasing carbon dioxide and methane into the air. Another contributor to the changes Earth incurs is the releasing of toxic fumes by cars. Cars, like plastic bags, release chemicals into the air. These in turn form clouds above cities that trap in heat from the sun. The fumes from cars and trucks are bad for people who suffer from asthma and the trapping of heat can cause changes in the environment. Finally, the most severe problem, cutting trees to produce paper which leads to less tress to take in carbon dioxide. Every year thousands of acres of forest are destroyed to produce paper. Paper, however, is a necessary part of our lives when it is needed for school and work. Cutting down trees also aides global warming because trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. If there is more carbon dioxide than oxygen on Earth, we risk being poisoned.

But, as for any problem, there is a solution. The use of plastic bags is unessential. Stores like Wal-Mart, sell recycled, reusable cloth bags that equal up to the strength of 2 to 3 plastic bags. If people in America substituted plastic bags with there, they’d be helping remove more than a million bags from waste fields and reducing the releasing of carbon dioxide into the air. Similarly, using alternative modes of transportation would reduce the carbon dioxide in the air. Alternatives include riding your bike or using the city bus. Riding bikes not only eliminates the releasing of carbon dioxide but also keeps you in great shape. Also, riding the city bus would save hundreds of dollars in gasoline. Finally, in an effort to reduce the carbon dioxide in the air, using recycled paper and recycling paper in order to stop cutting trees is a great way to do this. If we don’t want to do these things for our benefit, we should do it for the benefit of the generations that will come and those that are already growing.

So, next time you think about using plastic bags, driving to work, or using a new sheet a paper, think about how great the world would be if we had less carbon dioxide to worry about and more beautiful scenery to enjoy.
