Five “Fun”draiser Ideas

Fun and different ideas for fundraisers at your local school that make minor changes to old favorites which can make HUGE differences.

Frustrated with the same, old fundraising plans?  You can give these alterations on the old classics a try to help raise more money for your school or community organization!

1.) Car Wash w/ Twist–a snack bar!

Arrange for a snack bar with sodas and bake sale goods beside your car wash so that customers have something to do and a place to relax while their cars are being washed.  This will double your earnings as you can sell the “goodies” in addition to the charge for the car wash.  Don’t be afraid to hire the dance team or cheerleading squad to provide entertainment as well!

2.) International Cookout Night

Everyone is used to cookout nights.  You sell tickets in advance to a large potluck or spaghetti dinner.  However, it’s really fun to try this small difference.  Make all the foods international dishes!  It will allow the contributers to try to apply their culinary flair to different dishes and the attendees to have tastebud adventures!  Feel free to use cultural decorations and perhaps play music from around the world.

3.) Valentine Flower Sale

Receiving flowers on Valentine’s Day makes everyone feel special.  However, bouquets can get very expensive when a single flower can do the trick.  This is where you can raise funds!  Buying roses (both red and white) in bulk, seeking possible donations, or even employing your school’s art class or your organization’s more artistic members to create tissue paper roses can provide you with capital to sell.  If you can, attach a small note card with one of Shakespeare’s sonnets or a tiny bag of chocolates to make them more special and appealing.  Again, keep the selling price as cheap as possible since you are trying to compete with the expensive floral shop bouquets.

4.) Extras Raffle

While asking community businesses for a great deal of help or lots of donations can be a hassle, most are more than willing to help with something small–conditional gift certificates (buy one, get one or a free dessert with the purchase of dinner), extra merchandise from a large order, or clearance merchandise.  Approach your local businesses with the idea of small donations that help you AND bring them additional business.  You can give these away as prizes from a raffle.  Try to get a varied amount of these “extras” so that you attract all types of people to your raffle event.

5.) Dress-Up/Dress-Down Days

It is very common to have a school dress code, and we all know that businesses require employees to dress a certain way while on the job.  Approach your school administration or several local businesses to delegating a day where employees can dress-down or students can dress a certain way (halloween costumes, camoflage, historical periods) for a small donation.  Just make sure all the rules are clear with the leaders so that the day goes smoothly and that any exceptions are noted!

Good luck!  I hope these can help your cause!
