Green House Gases
What are the leading Green House Gases and what can we do to reduce them?
Green house gases are created naturally and by human activity. These gases get trapped in the atmosphere and cause the earth’s temperature to rise. These gases are created naturally, and that is not a bad thing, but the gases that are created from human activity, are the ones that are hurting our planet.
The four major polluters to the atmosphere are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases. These are all gases that are polluting our atmosphere from our own activities. Carbon Dioxide is emitted through cars and the burning of wood, this gas can also be removed from the atmosphere through plants. By planting more trees, and driving their cars less, ever person may be able to off set the amount of carbon dioxide that they emit into the atmosphere. Methane is produced during the production and transport of coal, and produced by landfills; this gas is also produced from the decay of dead animals. By reducing the use of coal and reducing our waste in landfills, this may greatly reduce the amount methane gas in the atmosphere.
Now fluorinated gases may be the worst green house gas that is produced by human activity. This gas is produced the least but has the greatest negative effect. Hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride are synthetic, powerful greenhouse gases that are emitted from a variety of industrial processes. By finding the companies that produce fluorinated gases, and reducing our use of their products we will be able to reduce the most harmful of the green house gases.
There are only a few little things that you can do to reduce you impact to the Earth. By doing these things we all may be able to make the Earth a better place for our children and the generations to come.
