Grocery Aid
While a long haul trucker I couldn’t help finding out several surprising facts. This page was written to tell the one that surprised me as I hauled a load of freight through Clayton New Mexico in the week before Christmas in December 2009.
Up in the north east corner of New Mexico America’s economic crisis has been very deadly. The small town of Clayton has never been filled by any large companies which manufacture goods. Most of the men there work in the fields surrounding it. That means with the holidays sinking in one old grocery store in Clayton has started a donation program to help feed the needy.
A couple days ago the local AM radio station broadcast-ed a news report about how Duck Wall’s is asking that canned food be donated. It couldn’t help being surprising when the story told how this small store will match what ever is donated and that other places in town were into the loving food process in some way as well. This way the store can help provide all the distributions to the needy folk around Clayton. That sunk in deeply because it shows how the people in Clayton will try to help each other as needed instead of beg for some government aid. It also hints to the fact that most of the small town residents around America can be as self reliant as necessary.
