How do I clean and oil an Abu reel?

Cleaning the Abu Reel

Rinse the reel in cold, running water for a few minutes. Ensure all sides are exposed to the water to remove all ocean salt and harsh mineral deposits. Wipe the surface with a dry cloth, and allow the reel to completely dry. Press the lock button on the reel over the spool, and rotate the spool counterclockwise to lift the spool and fishing line from the reel.

Lubricating the Abu Reel

Apply reel oil on the base of the spool spindle and the star-shaped gear. Oil the threaded tube where the handle is inserted. Add oil to the threaded shat that is positioned at the end of the crank handle. Remove the wire bail, and apply oil in each of the two holes that hold the reel bail. Remove the screws on the side of the reel that hold the two parts together, and clean the surface using tissue and cotton swabs. Add oil to the gear mechanism, spool bearing and the spindle located inside the housing. Reassemble the two parts, replace the screws and reattach the wire bail.

Final Cleaning

Wipe the exterior surface with a clean rag. Consider using a lubricating silicon spray for quick lubrication if you are unsure of disassembling the reel.
