How to Go Green and Save More
Helping the environment and saving money while you’re at it.
The possibility of going green can help you save money at the same time as well. The drastic climate changes have shifted the attention of people towards the planet, deservingly so. Through simple steps the carbon footprint can be reduced enabling people to live in greater harmony with the planet.
One way to go green is by saving energy, conserving energy can help reduce the energy bills hence save money. Adjusting the thermostat ever so slightly can help save on the costs of cooling and heating. Installing compact fluorescent light bulbs can help save energy. Appliances which are not in use should be unplugged. A smart power strip can be used on appliances like computers to reduce the power drained by the appliances. Heating the water in washing machines requires a lot of power hence washing clothes in cold water helps save energy.
Water is a precious commodity; most people in the world do not have access to clean water. Simple steps such as shorter showers and installing low-flow showerheads can help save water. Faucet aerators can help conserve heat and water.
Gasoline is a non-renewable resource used in vehicles for transportation. Saving gas can have a huge effect on the environment, both directly and indirectly. It will enable people to beat the rising costs of petroleum products as well. By using a bike or walking gas can be saved and it will also lead to a healthier lifestyle. Governments should concentrate on building sidewalks and bike lanes while building the infrastructure. Telecommunication has major advantages has no transportation is involved saving energy as well as money.
Other simple measures such as eating smart can have an impact on the environment as well. Meat has health and environmental costs attached to it hence reducing the meat intake can help. A water filter can be used to access clean water rather than relying on bottled water. Bottled water entails financial costs as well as deposal issues as well.
Money can be saved while purchasing as well. Buying second hand products helps recycle products. Instead of buying, things can be borrowed as well from neighbors or public organizations like libraries to help reduce production costs and personal costs. Buying things in bulk will help save money and reduce packaging costs. Long-lasting products may entail a high cost initially but they can help in the long run as they are more durable. Electronics can be recycled rather than thrown out. Electronic waste can be a hazard to the environment. Simple ingredients like baking soda, vinegar, lemon and soap can be used to make your own cleaning supplies, which will save money for you and be beneficial to the environment.
These simple measures can go a long way in helping the environment. People can easily employ these measures in their daily lives, helping themselves as well as the environment. Financial and environmental costs can be severely reduced by the employment, making going green advantageous to the people as well as the planet.

This is some great food for thought. I agree, in most cases you can help the environment and save money at the same time. As you’ve said, somethings save you money in the long run such as hybrid cars. They cost more to start with but you get much better gas milage so eventually you will save money. I do have to disagree on one point however, although eating less meat may help the environment and save money, it is not necessarily good for our bodies. We all need to eat enough meat and take in enough protein to be healthy. So while it may help the environment and save you money I don’t think this is a very smart decision.
