How to Segregate Your Garbage for Better Waste Management
One way of classifying waste materials is to classify them as hazardous or non-hazardous. Our garbage at home like our used steel brush or our old carpet is considered non-hazardous wastes.
As many products have been invented to make our lives efficient, many wastes have also been created. We, the normal, regular consumers who know only a thing or two about the real components of these waste materials, wouldn’t give a damn until we feel the initial effects of waste products in our environment. Scientists are urging us to do our part but we maintain a deaf ear to these things and leave it to the authorities’ decision.

One way of classifying waste materials is to categorize them as hazardous or non-hazardous. Our garbage at home such as used steel brush or old carpet is considered non-hazardous wastes. They don’t emit harmful gases to our environment and its chemicals wouldn’t also imperil our health unless they are burned or led to be attacked with pests and insects. Examples of hazardous wastes are flammable gases, gases that pollute the environment like CO2 and carbon monoxide, radioactive and hospital wastes. We may take for granted hospital wastes and may not care if we saw syringes, medical gloves floating in our oceans, but these wastes may bring diseases to people who come in contact with them. Remember, we don’t know who’s using it, what type of disease that materials bring or as to how long have they been floating like that. Our radioactive wastes are waste materials from those establishments who use nuclear power. They are so dangerous because we are talking about ionized chemicals which can blow a whole city, anytime it is ignited!
For non-hazardous wastes, we can simply recycle them. Recycling has always been the best way for the environment in terms of waste management. We can recycle plastics, steels and our old clothing. For hazardous wastes, since we are no scientist, it is better to report immediately to the authorities. They will be the ones who will take care of that. And the sooner the better.

Classify the garbage as recyclable, biodegradable and non biodegradable.
