Ignoring the Problem
There is a problem brewing in America that many seem to overlook and sweep under the rug. Are you one of those people or will you take a stand?
Recently a very young girl, very close to my heart went through something so horrible, that I cannot seem to ignore. Each and every day there is an epidemic going on here in our own country that 95% of American’s overlook simply because they are to careless to get involved. do you know what that epidemic is? Can you even handle knowing? Will you too overlook it?
Thank goodness there are a handful of organizations which have decided to help take a stand against Sexual Assault. But why are we as humans, so timid about this subject? I’m sure even you know of one person who’s been a victim, and what did you do to help that person? What’s so sad is that victims are looked at like they are lepers or carrying some kind of cruel contagious virus, but everyone around them. Did you know that? Did you know that the one person you know who was a victim has seen that same look in your eyes even!
What’s worse is that 30% of all sexual assault victims end up committing suicide because of the vulgar remarks and treatment by others. Can you live with yourself knowing that someone close to you who was a victim could be contemplating those same thoughts? Could you live with yourself if it actually happened to someone you know, or possibly even you?
We as American people need to stand up and stop ignoring this problem. Every year, more than half of sexual assault cases get either back logged, dismissed or the suspects are let to roam free. Why, because our system believes that the suspects who commit these heinous acts can be reformed eventually and so they don’t get harsher punishment. The support system is failing, because people refuse to face the problem head on. People are afraid of voicing their opinions about sexual assault, but why?
We all watch shows and movies about, sure, but what about the fact that it’s not just fiction – it’s actually going on right up under our noses and no one cares! Law & Order SVU is just a start, but in reality, the cases you see them solve on t.v. are now where near the actual thing that real people experience. It’s harder for people to face facts then it is for them to watch it on television, has television defiled us as humans that much?

It is dreadful. Where I live if the attackers identity is known he will be in the mountains and dead before morning.
