Indifference Towards Environment

*Our earth has enough for everyone’s needs but not for someone’s greed- mahatma Gandhi said.

Environment is the natural world within which people, plants, animals live- that is everything which surrounds us, our home. Everything we need for our survival is given by the environment.

Let’s see the specific ways in which environment is useful to us

• Food- man depends on the environment for food.
• Shelter- man uses the earth’s resources to shelter himself from rain, sun and snow.
• Inspiration and recreation- people need the environment for inspiration and recreation.
• Water and air- our survival and that of other living tings is impossible without water and air.

Nowadays people are not treating the environment with the respect it deserves. They have caused many problems to the environment. The reasons the environment is in danger are:-

A)    Greed for money- to make money quickly people exploit the environment in a harmful way. For example, some industrialists do not care the rubbish of their factories which is thrown into the sea, kills the fish and the plan life. They just want to find a cheap way to get rid of them.

B)    Indifference towards environment- most of us do not care if the environment is in danger. As long as they are fine. We are not bothered to pick up a piece of paper someone else dropped and we think environment problems are not ours. Remember, if we do not team up, nothing will be done.

C)    Laziness and carelessness- many of us are too lazy to run off the lights while leaving the room or we just forget about them. Also at times we do not close the tap of the sink nor keeps it running unnecessarily.

Whenever we are out for a picnic, for example, we leave a lot of garbage afterwards.

D) Rising population- the fact that population of the earth has raised means that we need more food and more energy. So, we are cutting trees and hunting animals.
