International Youth Day

It is particularly necessary for the youth to embrace these challenges of sustainability so that they may be better able to cope with the future of the world. Celebrate the day with full zeal and zest but remember a few words from me that are in the form of a poem.

The youth is the future of the world. If they lag behind the world can not progress. The training of the youth is the training of the future of the world. All over the world the young ones are trying to engage themselves in such activates that could lead them to success. The younger generation of today is not fully prepared for the future. There are many causes of this phenomenon. The list of problems is varied as the nations of the world. Every nation has its own issues and problems and the youth is to face them in that environment. There was an anxiety all over the world about the future of the world –the youth. The UN was intimated about the concerns of the global youth. In 1999, on 17th December the general assembly of this world body endorsed the recommendations of the Ministers of the youth affairs and declared August 12, as the international youth day. This decision was taken in the resolution 54/120. The general assembly of the UN asked the world to create awareness among the masses about the problems of the young generation. The first world youth Day was celebrated in 2000.

Different issues were specified to be highlighted for the youth. The responsibilities were to be put on the shoulders of the youth to tackle these issues. The list of issues discussed so far and highlighted in the day are as under;

In 2008 —– Youth and Climate Change: Time for Action

In 2007 – —-Be seen, Be heard: Youth participation for development

In 2006 —– Tackling Poverty Together

In 2005 ——  Making Commitments Matter

In 2004 ——Youth in an Intergenerational Society

In 2003 —— Finding decent and productive work for young people everywhere

In 2002 —— Now and for the Future: Youth Action for Sustainable Development

In 2001 – ——-Addressing Health and Unemployment

The slogan or issue for the year 2009 is;

 Sustainability; our challenge our future

The sustainability is not taken in environmental sense only but it includes environment, society and economy. These three aspects of life work together and out attitude also shape them. The changes in these three aspects of life affect our lives badly. The unsustainable behavior of these aspects can not be tackled easily. The environment is one example. We polluted our environment without the knowledge that it would pollute our lives as a whole and now we can do nothing without remorse. The concept of global village makes us to believe that every change in any part of the world in the filed of economy, food or environment affect the whole world.

It is particularly necessary for the youth to embrace these challenges of sustainability so that they may be better able to cope with the future of the world. Celebrate the day with full zeal and zest but remember a few words from me that are in the form of a poem.

O THE YOUNG MAN OF MY AGE

Where is the warmth of your blood?

Where have gone the firm determinations

Why have vanished your thoughts sublime

Why have you ignored your destination?

Dance romance and making love

Are the chores you keep above?

The hawkish eyes have gone blind

You have mortgaged your delicate mind

The lion has learnt from you to roar

Instead of metal you became oar

The day of youth we celebrate

To push you up and accelerate

We celebrate it every year

But what is this you leave rear

The empty tins of cold drinks

Bottles of wine on the brinks

The pitted dancing floor and dim lights

The lustful gestures and emotional nights

Think about it o young man

Are you doing the right thing?

Are you going on right path?

Are you prepared to take control?

Of the affairs on the roll
