Lacerated Womb of Mother Earth

We celebrate the World Earth Day every year. The Earth is our mother. She nourishes us with the best provisions. But we spoil the eco system by our selfishness and greed.

God planted wombs in nature to yield humanity happiness. Man is planting bombs to tear the earth and frighten the whole humanity in living death!

The last minutes of this year’s World Earth Day are just slipping from us reminding us once again the cruelties that we have done to our Mother Earth. Every year we celebrate this day and every year the condition of our eco system is going bad to worse.

“Let each one be a tree of peace; this way we will provide forests of peace for our children,” said Julia Sigmund. Celebrating the World Earth Day on 5th June, we should remind ourselves that ecology is not only an important survival issue, but it is also a way of relating to ourselves, to others and the environment. It is in fact also a spirituality that seeks to restore the original harmony of the universe as God willed it to be.

ECO SPIRITUALITY

Living in harmony with the nature is the eco spirituality developed by our ancient philosophers. The starting point of this spirituality is the experience of cosmic unity and not multiplicity; harmony and not disharmony; fullness and not partiality; silence and not sound. In short it is the perception of reciprocity and connectedness in the various elements of one reality. In such a worldview human being is seen as an organic part of the cosmos, not as the sole ruler that dominates and spoils everything!

IN HARMONY WITH MOTHER

We live on this earth. Our habitat is the cosmic context of our lives. To become aware of it, we have to accustom ourselves to the music of the seasons and dance to the rhythm of nature. Everything around us throb with life and love leading us to the very Fountain of Life itself!

ENHANCE ECOLOGY OF HUMAN VALUES

Ecology is not only the well maintenance of trees, animals and rivers. It implies first of all creating a healthy human environment conducive to the harmonious growth of younger generations so as to create a home that favors life, not polluted by poison and crazy atoms. Environment pollution today also means distortion of the value system of our society.

THINK OF MOTHER EARTH

The earth is the womb from which we all came. Our Mother Earth feeds us not only in childhood but all through our life. She nourishes our minds and expands its horizons before our wondering eyes unveil the richness of creation, its beauty and harmony. In her we experience the irresistible drives of life as well as the calmness of a starlit night. She is not a thing of consumer item to be purchased in the market; rather she is our mother to be cherished in our heart!

BEING CHILDREN OF MOTHER EARTH

The World Earth Day calls us to come to the lap of our beloved mother to be solaced by her soothing nature of understanding. She calls us to lead a life not of domination and power but a life of communion with the life giving, life sustaining ecosystems and human relationships. When that happens we are able to vibe with Tagore, the Nobel Laureate poet, and exclaim:

“How often, great Earth, have I left my being yearn to flow over you, sharing in the happiness of each green blade that raises its signal banner in answer to the beckoning blue of the sky! I feel as if I had belonged to you ages before I was born”.
