Lara Logan Was Raped By 200 Men Moments After This Picture of Her Was Taken
On the eleventh day of February, CBS foreign correspondent Lara Logan and her film crew were in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.
Lara was in Egypt to give a report on the Egyptian political uprising that was going on.
The 39-year-old correspondent and her film crew made their way to the Tahrir Square – which was the center of the demonstrations. The Square was packed with a sea of jubilant people as that day was the day Hosni Mubarak’s government was finally toppled.
As Lara Logan and her film crew prepared to begin reporting some members of the jubilant crowd even begged her for autographs.
But before she and her film crew could realize, the mood of some of the men around her had turned violent and one of the men in the crowd said in Arabic that he wanted to pull Lara Logan’s pants down.
At these words, fear sped through Lara and her team.
“That was literally the moment the mob set on me.” Lara Logan told the New York Times

“I thought, not only am I going to die here, but it’s going to be just a torturous death that’s going to go on forever and ever and ever.”
Truly, the deranged mob pounced on Lara. Her bodyguard, her producer and entire crew members tried to hold on to her, but the mob proved too strong for them and successfully carried Lara away, subjecting her to brutal sexual attack.
The attack on Lara is said to have lasted around 40 minutes.
“For an extended period of time, they raped me with their hands.” Lara said to the New York Times “What really struck me was how merciless they were. They really enjoyed my pain and suffering. It incited them to more violence.”
Lara’s clothes were torn into pieces by the mob of at least 200 strong men before they proceeded in raping her violently with their bare hands. Lara was only rescued after a group of local women brought 20 Egyptian soldiers to her aid.
Lara was instantly flown back to the United States where she received proper medical attention.
Lara Logan said that she decided to come out and speak about what happened to her in Cairo on behalf of the millions of voiceless women who are subjected to sexual attacks like this and worse.
It is hoped that her interview would help raise the much awareness needed for sexual violence against women journalists who report from conflict regions.
