Hello There! So, you want to Go Veg? Or you’re here to learn about it before you decide. Well, to learn, go over to http://www.peta.org or http://www.peta2.com for info. This article will be about living without meat. It is the first in a series of obsticles I, as well as others faced. I hope you like this article.
Firstly, lets talk about how to quit. I quit cold turkey (no pun intended), but some people can’t. Try this, eat no meat on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then the next week eat no meat Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Then the week after that, eat no meat Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Then the week after eat no meat Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Then finally, you’ll be a vegetarian the next week. Okay, so…you’ve quit, now what? Decide, do you want to be a lacto-ovo Vegetarian (you don’t eat meat but you eat eggs and dairy), an ovo Vegetarian (no meat or dairy, just eggs), a lacto Vegetarian (no meat or eggs, just dairy), or a Vegan. I’m an ovo Vegetarian, I like the taste of soy milk, and its more enriched. You might ask, Now what? Well…You plan!
Planning is what gets most people, the just stop eating meat and refuse to eat nuts and legumes. THIS IS BAD! You must have protein, but the problem is, amino acids by nature are nitrogen based. When too many hard to break down proteins (animal) are ingested, the body strips the nitrogen from the protein. Then after stripping the nitrogen, converts it to fat. That, combined with animal fat, makes meat a cause of obeisity and heart disease. Although, a good amout of plant protein (a cup of beans) is good for you to live on. 1 cup of soy beans contains 30 whopping grams of protein! It’s pretty easy to get enough protein. Just eat beans, nuts, and meat substitutes. Now on to Vitamin B-12. B-12 is sythesized in the hindgut of all herbavores, except humans, I think we lost the symbiotic relationship with B-12 producing bacteria over millions of years from consuming flesh. You can get B-12 from drinking silk, Taking a simple suppliment, or eating certain enriched foods. B-12 is essential for nervous development. Now what? You eat!
Here’s a site that’ll show you some delicious recipes. I personally love the “Chicken” and Mushroom Duxelle en Crôute thats prounounce Doo-zelle an Kroot:
