Needy Children Get Help at Tuni Orphanage

On March 19, 2009, someone in Hyderabad, India, started to throw garbage into a dustbin and discovered an abandoned two-day-old baby. Around the same time of the year, another baby was left on the steps of Gandhi Hospital. To meet this need of what the CIA World Factbook has described as India having “significant overpopulation,” numerous orphanages can be found throughout India.

India was the second most populated nation when this article was written. This along with other factors has resulted in numerous children being abandoned, or parents finding themselves in situations where they feel they can no longer take care of a child.

Though this seems quite dismal, thank God there are people who care enough to do something about this curse and establish orphanages to minister to the needs of these children.

Arshirvad Home for Orphans is one such agency. Located in Tuni, a city of over 50,000, the orphanage, operated by the Society to Empower Women in Action (SEWA), is currently providing care and education for 75 children.

Originally in 2003, it was located in Dosalapadu, a village about 15 miles from Tuni. At that time it had 12 children. Just a year later, the orphanage moved to Tuni to enable its children to get a better education. A portion of the Ashirvad children during class is shown above.

Along with the better education, the orphanage provides a clean and safe place to live. This is a great blessing to some of the children who had been sleeping on city streets.

As one can imagine, there are cases where children had been in dysfunctional families, living in situations where they were no longer wanted or had become an “economic burden.” Those that can get into Ashirvad are blessed there with a warm family setting.

Of course, the orphanage also provides for their other basic needs like nutritious food, clothing, hygiene training and medical needs.

Foundational to all of this is that Ashirvad Home for Orphans has the objective to glorify God by meeting not only the physical needs of the children it serves, but also providing for their spiritual needs which can only be met in Jesus Christ. Above, the children are shown worshiping Christ in song.

While Ashirvad has grown from 12 to 75 children, the need is still great and it is the desire of SEWA to see the orphanage care for 200 children–100 boys and 100 girls.

Communications began in 2008 with Show God’s Love (SGL) to establish Ashirvad as one of it’s projects. The board of directors for SGL unanimously accepted Ashirvad Home for Orphans as a project and is now seeking sponsors for children that need to be admitted to this orphanage. One can learn more about the orphanage by visiting the SGL web site.

While there, if you take time to read of how Raja Sekher, the director of the orphanage, committed to Christ, you will learn why he wanted to take a very active role in the lives of these children.

With over six billion people on Earth there are large numbers of hurting people with needs. Ashirvad Home for Orphans is trying to better the situation, one child at a time. The least we can do is pray that God will continue to supply for the needs of these children by raising up sponsors to provide funding so more children can find a Christian solace at Ashirvad.

    Greetings Sravani.

For this particular orphanage, sponsorships through Show God’s Love ( http://www.showgodslove.org ) provide food, clothing, housing, healthcare, etc. for their selected child.
