Our Visit to Idps of Swat in Islamabad Pakistan
When we heard about (IDPs) Internally Displaced People from Swat, Malakand and other areas who have sacrificed their homes to make the War against Taliban successful we came to know through media that these families are mostly migrating towards other cities where ever they could mange to reach at different camps set by the Government, Volunteer Groups or NGO’S.
On 18Th May 2009 we came to know that few of the families of IDPs have moved at Mehra Abadi Itfaq Town, G-12 Islamabad, It is hardly 15 minutes drive from our place so I called our group of female friends who wanted to join our volunteer team to visit these IDPs and then few of us decided to visit them next day on 19Th May we took some clothes for ladies and Children and toys (packed according to kids age group with their clothes with milk and other food stuff.
The thing which really moved us that most of these IDPs thanked us when we visited them and they also said we our thankful of our God we have everything only two or three families asked for another fan and pressure cooker and they mentioned themselves that they have food and other basic things to live for few days but only one or two families came last night and they mentioned that only they don’t have even clothes or anything and they are living with them as guests. We were surprised that these people have been already looked after by some other local people or NGO’S as when we went one by one approx 12 different houses and asked them if they need any thing? They also told us that these two families have walked all the way from there to Islamabad. So we distributed few clothes and food and milk to them and noted what they need now but there was one thing which was common in all these families that they were content what they have as they were able to reach to the capital city with almost empty hands and have sacrificed their houses full of everything. Though it is not encouraged by the Capital police at all to allow these families to live in the capital.
There should be some coordination between NGO’S and Volunteer groups to continue this effort of providing such supplies on regular bases as the basic food supplies should be send on regular bases and who ever have taken the initiative should not break the chain.
But As a citizen we all must play our role by helping these IDPs at any level where ever we can!
As no help is small neither any donation we all should step up and play our role by supporting all these NGO’S and Relief Camps to continue helping IDP s until they go back to their homes
