Pink Garbage Cans in Southaven Help “Kick Cancer to The Curb”
The City of Southaven, Mississippi is offering 96-gallon pink garbage cans to city residents for $5. All proceeds will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Look for them to appear on the streets in September 2010.
Pink Garbage Cans Coming Soon to Southaven
The City of Southaven, Mississippi has partnered with Cascade Engineering in their “Kick Cancer to the Curb” initiative, in which city residents can support the American Cancer Society buy paying $5 for the use of a pink garbage can.
As reported by JB Clark in “The Desoto Times,” on July 6, Mayor Greg Davis is spear-heading the fund raiser, which has a goal of selling 100,000 cans to raise at least $500,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Having ordered 500 cans to begin with, the city is already ordering more due to the fact that more than 550 cans have already been ordered by residents eager to support breast cancer awareness.
Residents may purchase the pink garbage cans for $5 from the Southaven City Hall Municipal Complex or utility offices. The pink cans are just like the green cans and will remain property of the city. The $5 donation is required to use the new pink cans and will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
The breast cancer awareness receptacles will be hitting the streets by September, according to Mayor Davis.
The Pink Cart was developed by Cascade Cart Solutions to “support a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays.” Other cities across America are doing the same as Southaven and joining in the fight using the pink garbage cans. More information can be found at www.thepinkcart.com.
Since 1971, The American Cancer Society has invested over $388 million in breast cancer research grants. No other public health organization has surpassed that.
Money raised for the ACS goes to funding cutting-edge research in life-saving treatments like Tamoxifen and Herceptin, free programs that improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families, free email mammogram reminders, and programs matching newly diagnosed breast cancer patients with a survivor to help them through their journey.
