Planets Alive: Part Six – Earth

Cradle of life, Earth is our home, whose biosphere we are struggling to sustain.

Peace and Sustainability

Peace on Earth and its’ glove justice; will bring the necessary state for Solar system explorations. In a sense humanity must, “earn,” the ability to populate the outer reaches of the neighborhood once things have been set straight on the ground. Historically, colonization exported all injustice, particularly in Australia’s case, where an entire Continent was branded “Terra Nullius,” or, “A Land Without People,” for 200 or more years – a dumping ground for criminals.

“Intelligent beings could live on Jupiter.” How then, in the mirror of history, will we treat them?

Sustainability is regeneration, or the sustaining, of the biosphere for future generations. We can achieve sustainability with organic agriculture, limiting carbon smoke, while caring for complex Earth. Swathes of forests are currently being felled without any idea how much biota is being forfeited.

Space living is a paper-tiger if we can’t solve our situation. We have to take a hard look at what we are doing before venturing afar. In the immortal words of Michael Jackson, let’s, “Take a look in the mirror and make the change.”

Venturing into barrier-free realms beyond Earth means we need to:

  • Remove all razor-wire barriers
  • Bring peace on Earth
  • Regenerate our environment.

The Tides of History

Settling the neighborhood will take on a powerful putsch once underway. Space settlement will look back on 2009 as its’ zygote year when the first whispers from space were being heard. Space will provide us with everything we need in the future. This is so much the case that all coal mines, petro-chemical plants and nuclear power plants will be shut, or radically changed, on Earth thirty years from now. We can expect all our energy and mineral needs to be satisfied from the fruits of space settlement.

Space colonization will rival the World Wide Web, in its’ mammoth-scope, with many on Earth rushing to live near Jupiter, as the technology becomes available, for settlement. With an American land base on the moon in ten years and plans afoot for a manned trip to Mars, the rush is about to begin. The amount of visitors to space will only increase in the next five years, with the availability of space-flights for the first time, taking them yonder. Are you prepared?

Haiku for Earth

Breath of Mother Earth,

Sustain all with your climate,

Peace is what we want.

I’m in favor of space exploration. There are plenty of humans–plenty to go, plenty to stay.
