I was watching the news last night, which is something I do fairly regular basis when I have the time. We’re about to watch a movie though so I just want to hear the headlines so I know what to look for online today.

Until I heard the one very disturbing headline, taking place almost in my own backyard.

The headline I heard that disturbed me was “One county is trying to ban certain books and videos, we’ll tell you why, next.”

My initial response, was (as you’d expect) “Screw you. You can’t do that you fascist pricks.”

So of course we didn’t watch the movie right away. I had to hear this story. As it turns out, pornography is an abomination. “We don’t want our teenagers to have access to it.” was one excuse that I heard.

Um, excuse me? They don’t have access to pornography, unless you and your husband/wife/some other adult don’t know how to put their shit up. It’s illegal to sell or to give pornography to anyone under the age of 18 in the United States. If your children have access to pornography, either a shop needs to be fined for breaking that law, or you seriously need to reconsider your parenting skills.

All that you are possibly going to to succeed in doing by banning pornography is opening up the floodgates for Fahrenheit 451. (That was the book where the government banned books and the all burned, 451 being the temperature at which a book burns.) They’ll start with the pornography, then they’ll move on to romance novels, then anything with a lovemaking scene, then they’ll just ban things. Because they can, because we gave them permission.

This is the land of the free, and with freedom comes responsibility. If you don’t want the responsibility that comes with the power to make your own choices, kindly do me a favor and go  to Cuba, where they’ll tell you what to do. Otherwise, shut the Hell up and reap the rewards of being an American, where your free to live or die by your choices, and quit asking the government to do it for you. I don’t want them invading my daily life as much as they already do. You get the Hell off it or get out.
