Practical Solutions for Homelessness
Here are a few thoughts on the practically solving homelessness in the UK.
“More publicity needs to be done to co-ordinate and manage homelessness across the UK”
The first radical change that needs to be done is to merge the National Missing Persons Website into the National Missing Persons and Homelessness Website.
In my view there is a link if someone goes missing there is a good chance they could be homeless and seems a good idea to me. It would not be too hard to merge surely.
What should be included on the National Missing Persons and Homelessness Website?
Homeless Magazines:
A list of all resources relating to homelessness in this area i.e. magazines and newspapers.
Whereabouts geographically are they based?
Who buys their magazine and at what cost?
What is the main content in the magazine?
Do homeless people have copies of the magazines?
Is there anything missing in any of the magazines that needs to be covered?
Could any of the magazines or newspapers be merged to form a larger edition to benefit more people and have fewer overheads?
Could the Pavement magazine be moved out nationally rather than just in London?
Homeless Charities:
A regional forum should be included to name all charities that claim to help homeless people in that area. This should be done in every area of the UK.
How many charities is there that operate within a geographical area?
How many homeless people are there in a particular area?
How much in total do charities in a particular area generate from funding and how much actually of that is spent on expenses for staff or volunteer salaries or other expenses and what actually goes on eradicating the actual issues?
Who gives food; clothes and help in what area should be listed on the site and monitored?
There should be an Ombudsman that monitors those who claim to help those in need.
Perhaps there should be “scores on the doors scheme” that the Ombudsman should issue that scrutinise charities to put all costs back to the people who actually need it and merge charities where appropriate in a charities merger.
