Practical Solutions for Homelessness

Here are a few thoughts on the practically solving homelessness in the UK.

Big Issue Sellers:

The Big issue UK should in my view be on this website:

Allow more people such as myself who want to write for their magazine to do so and actually take the time and effort to respond to people who take an interest in this issue.

On this website there should be a list of names, photos and patches of people who work in each town and city. Those who are not genuine sellers or obtain money from busking that are not allowed alternative avenues to gain money should perhaps be listed.

Other issues that should be addressed & stated on the website:

How many homes within each area are empty at any one time in the local community that the council could house people who are officially classed as homeless? Can each council submit statistics for this website?

How long does it take to actually house someone that is classed as homeless and are there any occasions when they would actually be on the street and if so why would they slip through the net?

Why can’t utility companies give free water, gas, electricity and phone bills to registered hostels & homeless organisations that the local authority approve of, these companies have significant profits so why cant they give something back to vulnerable people?

Can oil companies give designated petrol stations in each geographical area finance for them to give away certain amounts of petrol of diesel to organisations that genuinely help homeless people i.e. driving them to therapy etc as long as they meet specific criteria they get a weekly allowance to spend on the actual project only?

Can McDonald’s give free drinks & meals for people who are literally classed as homeless who meet specific criteria i.e. live in a hostel or have no fixed oboe? They would have a card which is stamped for a specific period of time?

People would be able to obtain these benefits only because they are the poorest of society and because they agree to under take drug programs with random drug tests, look for work and other schemes to better themselves and take whatever assistance to get back on the straight and narrow they qualify?

Should homeless people be arrested for sleeping on the streets as is currently the case, instead of arresting them pay and house them don’t make their lives even harder to get back onto a stable footing, why do the authorities treat them like it should be on the site too? What can be done to significantly change this approach to help rather than hinder their development?

What should we do to target those who genuinely want to become a career homeless person and do not want any other life? Should they be forced into accommodation with no option?

Where they get benefits they should produce receipts so they are spending it on productive things such as food, water and healthy living not alcohol and drugs?

What Homelessness should be classed as?

  1.  No fixed address to live at
  2. Living on the streets or in a hostel
  3. Officially being released from prison
  4.   Any organisation that helps people who are genuinely destitute in our land.
  5. This should be UK or EU citizen. Any other nationality who comes to the UK who is classified as homeless should be sent home and we should not assist those who want to sponge off us as a rich nation for handouts. We have to be cruel to be kind.

Finally: If people are homeless for whatever reasons is that their problem and if people cannot stand on their own two feet and stand strong they are not society’s issues?

There are some interesting thoughts to think of regarding this issue and surely if the right people are reading this article could bring about some necessary changes to help the most vulnerable in our community.
