Race in America

America does have a moral responsibility to help our children understand the history and effects of racism.

As a response to this article, how can Hargrove say we need to “get over it” when Hargrove’s state is the birthplace of slavery?  I think this was a very selfish statement made to try and make him look better, but in truth, it only exposed his ignorance to the whole situation.  Race will always be an issue in America as long as the government allows and gives rights to racially motivated associations.  The government says this is hate groups right to meet as an organization.  The United States was suppose to outlaw racism in our schools and work places, but what have they really done to ensure this, and to enforce these laws?  In my eyes, nothing when my children have to go to a school, where my son is picked on because his sister is black, and the school system does nothing.  How about my boyfriend going to work and a noose is hanging on his forklift?  How does that make it fair to the different ethnical diversities around the world, if they condone these types of meetings?

“Get over it” how do we do that is my question?  Our white forefathers captured the Africans and forced them to America, held them in captivity, beat them, starved them, and raped their women.  Do you think a person could “get over it” if someone did this to their ancestors, or even to their children today?

When is America going to get enough, and do something about this problem?  As far as “get over it” African-Americans probably never will.  If you don’t understand where all of the anger and resentment comes from, you should watch Alex Haley’s “Roots” and get a first hand glance of what it was really like for African-Americans’ ancestors, and then analyze the situation at hand.
