Racism and Discrimination

The many ways racism, segregation, and other hideous forms of discrimination still exist today and ways we can help eliminate this.

Every single day, all across the globe, racism and other forms of discrimination are occurring. They are occurring because we, the people of the earth, do not know how to stop them, and restore peace to our planet once again, but that isn’t the only thing we don’t know about these biases. If you take the time to think about it, an even more significant question we should be asking ourselves is –“Do we really know why they exist in the first place?” Well, the answer still remains clear to this date and it is no, we actually do not. Now, because of this one unknown answer, many people say it could be the only reason to why these “injustices” still remain today, but I believe I have a solution.

But, first of all, the question that comes to mind is what is this “racism” anyway? Well, I can tell you one thing, racism is not a joking matter. By its simplest definition and I quote – “it is the belief that one race is the dominant of all human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race”, generally meaning that it is when one race of people believe that they are the better (or the dominant) of another that may cause inappropriate behaviour between the two races. (i.e. fighting, bullying, killing, etc.)

The damage that this can cause is great, both in ways physically and mentally, but the times when racism was strongest were in the past between the periods of American slavery (when black people were forced to be the slaves of white plantation owners) and World War II, of the time period when the evil, mastermind Hitler attempted to take over the world.

Nowadays, even though this discrimination has weakened “quite a bit”, segregation (racism) and other forms of prejudice are still wreaking havoc and chaos everywhere, but if you actually think about it, no one really tries to stop them. Yes, there are many people that helped reduce racism and bias (such as Abraham Lincoln, great guy), which I strongly think is wonderful, but if we truly wanted to eliminate racism once and for all, we would need to work together, but we don`t really see many people doing that. It`s either one person or no people at all.

between the periods of American slavery (when black people were forced to be the slaves of white plantation owners) and World War II

You realize that slavery was still heavily practiced in europe till around the american revolution and that jews have always been attacked by other races. During the roman empire christians were attacked because of their religion (prejudice which is closely related) and the catholics invaded the holly land because they wanted to get the Holly land back from, paraphrasing, those who did not deserve it.

The true problem now is that most policies such as affirmative action are now causing more racism than they help. That is because they are racist in themselves. People will get hired with less credentials based of their race. Just because that race is black, doesn’t mean it’s not racist. Then, those white people with the proper credentials will sometimes blame the black people because of the injustice instead of the system.

Something has gone terribly wrong now that we’ve tried to erect Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream.
    We’ve missed the whole point
