Save One or Save The World

We have to save the world.

The icebergs are smaller than ice cubes, the ozone layer is thinner than a hair follicle and the air is too toxic to breath. All the plants, animals, and humans are dead. Imagine that everything Al Gore said came true. We are not equipped to handle this threat at this time or ten years down the road at this rate. Our resources are focussed on other matters that we believe is more important than our planet. It seems like we are fighting each other while a third stronger force is waiting to defeat the winner. We need to reorganize our resources and fund them toward global warming prevention instead of other foundations and petty wars. Limiting cancer/aids research toward funding ways to stop global warming would beneficent not only humans, but the entire world more than S.T.I or even stem cell research ever will.

We could redirect at least 80% of our science research and other funds to use toward funding global warming initiatives to lower our use of natural resources and into repairing what we have already damaged such as all the harmful chemicals destroying our atmosphere like enemy invaders destroying our castle walls, they are destroying the only barrier protecting us. The funding that we redirect will still leave enough left to support the organizations but at a minimum rate so we can solve this greater problem that is threatening everything on the planet

An argument to counter this might be “I rather fight to stop cancer so that people would not suffer from cancer all over the world, so why do you want to kill them by limiting funding?” Think about any large mammal on this planet. Our population is higher than any of them and we grow by 90 million more people each year. Our population is always striving to prolong our life by putting so much work into organizations for us but what we have not noticed is that all lives will end because of global warming. Even if we do cure cancer and fulfill the goals of other organizations, what good does that do for the rest of the world that is not human? 20,000 different species die each year from global warming; most of our goals don’t have anything to do with helping the other organisms living on earth. Cancer has not ever killed a species and let us face it, it will not kill all of us off for centuries. Global warming could take a manner of decades to fully kill off everything and leave earth looking like mars. Global warming is not going to kill just us, it will kill everything. Also if you do the math, global warming would obliterate everything before cancer can kill all humans. If global warming wins, all other organizations and goals won’t matter.

For the people that are not convinced yet, think of this: if you save people’s lives from cancer or aids or something else, would you want to have them all die or have to live through the horrors of global warming? Would you want to go through that pain? Would you want them to watch their families die? To see the world slowly go to hell and fall apart? To know that their children will not have a future? To feel partly responsible for this because funding did not go toward stopping global warming and for instead to being spent on letting them witness this horror, powerless? Would you want the same fate as them? We have to protect and save the ones we love. If you want to prevent this horrible destiny, we have to stop global warming at all costs.

Your children and family are precious to you. Global warming would result in unsurvivable climate change, scarce food supply, and no future. The people you care about will die. No doubt about it, unless we invest in global warming prevention projects now, such as safer products that lower the use of natural resources as well as stopping companies and others to stop polluting the environment.

Perhaps you are feeling that you can’t do anything to stop global warming. I once too felt that I could do nothing when it comes to global warming, that I was a man trying to move a mountain. I felt that their was not a thing I could do to stop global warming and that it was not even my problem to start with, like that a insurmountable task was passed onto me. Global warming was here when I was born and I thought it would still be here when I die no matter what I do, but that is not entirely true. I can do something about global warming. It is my problem, your problem, the government’s problem, company’s problems, Wall Street’s problem, the world’s problem. We all have to unite and work together to save ourselves and our planet.

Environmental expert David Suzuki agrees that something has to be done even through nothing is. “Today, we are facing precisely those dangers, yet we are doing little to counter them”. This amount of support to action is like sending a canoe to fight a battleship armada.

This approach to global warming might be seen as heartless and cruel but the reason is by limiting research for the greater good of stopping global warming even if some people may die, we will prosper and work hard to succeed because we have loved ones. I also have people that I hold dear and I don’t want them to suffer from global warming to save this planet not for me, but for the people I love and cherish. I would not want to lose them would you?

This planet is not just ours. It is for the children that will succeed us. Let us stop global warming now so they can stop cancer and everything else when global warming is over.
