Saving the Earth and Its Creative Systems

Renewable energy includes solar energy, geothermal energy, wind energy, wave energy, hydroelectric energy and biomass energy. The need for development to improve the quality of life as well as meet the requirements of an increasing population has to be balanced with the proper management of development activities and the ecosystem.

Unplanned and un-managed development activities have led to environmental pollution, greenhouse effect, depletion of the ozone layer, landslides, flash floods and the likes.

Thus it’s essential to have planned management of development to minimize negative effects on the environment and ensure a balanced ecosystem. The following views the measures or steps that have been or can be taken in the management of development activities.

In Malaysia, the control and protection of the quality of the environment involves enactment of the following legislation a) Environmental Quality Act 1974 is the main act that controls and protects environmental quality b) The department of Environment (DOE) is the agency that has power to enforce fully this act c) The Environmental Quality Act of 1974 gives importance to the following i) sustenance of natural resources ii) controlling pollution that affects the quality of the environment iii) the needs of the increasing human population iv) development activities d) The Department of Environment has the following duties to fulfill under the environmental Quality Act of 1974 i) Waste treatment and disposal facilities (1979) ii) Crude palm oil (1977) iii) Controlling industrial effluents (1979).

    I know that some people say that wind power generation is not terribly effective but I think the turbines look awesome! We just had some put on the hills above my home town and I never get tired of seeing them.

    Getting back to backbreaking work just to minimize our toxic wastes seems more practical than saving ourselves from a mile walk and a lifetime of misery. A well written article to enlighten us of our present ordeal.

    An interesting read Mr Ghaz. This is the only way to go and I hope soon all new builds will come with solar panels and I know lots of people complain about the wind turbines being near their homes but I actually thing they are quite beautiful in their own relaxing way.
