Soap Does More Than Clean

Find out what other uses you can give to a bar of soap and how eco friendly it can be.

It is always interesting to discover new uses for everyday products. Did you know you can use vinegar to keep ants out of your homes? Or that it also is the best window cleaner? As the world becomes more and more eco friendly we are finding new ways to use safe products and avoid having harsh and harmful chemicals in our homes.

One common household item that has many unique uses is a bar of soap. It is cheap, can be bought in bulk, and can help you accomplish many household chores.

When storing items such as luggage or a box of clothes for winter you can include a bar of fresh smelling soap. Soap will help keep your items from smelling old and musty the next time you use them.

If you have ever tried to remove wallpaper glue you know what a chore it can be. Mix your bar of soap with warm water and you will find that you have created a miracle glue getter. The mixture of soap and water can be sponged on the glue and will help it peel away with ease.

Soap is a great insect repellent. It is not going to keep the mosquitoes from biting in the hot summer months but it will help keep insects away from your garden plants. When mixed with water it can be put in a spray bottle and sprayed directly onto the plants leaves.

If you have ever broken a light bulb while trying to remove it you are aware of how easy it is to get cut in this situation. Take out your trusty bar of soap and push one edge down onto the socket of the bulb. With just a few twists of the soap the bulb will release and you have saved yourself about ten stitches.

Gas leaks in your home can be potentially deadly. Would you believe your little bar of soap can be life-saving? Well, it can. Soap can be used to tell if your gas is leaking. Mix up some soap and water and rub it on the possible leak. If you see a bubble you have a leak.

Do your kids get their jacket and pants zippers stuck? Have you gotten your luggage zipper stuck on a vacation? You can fix this problem, which always occurs at the worst times, by putting soap on the zipper. Just wax it up with your bar of soap and zip away.

You will, at some point, have a drawer that sticks. Dressers and kitchen drawers are regular culprits of the stuck drawer syndrome. If you feel a drawer getting difficult to open you can rub your bar along the tracks to wax the rollers. This will keep your drawers in working order.

Keeping your car fresh is as easy as putting a box of soap under your seat. This is much cheaper than the car air fresheners which contain lots of chemicals. Buy a box of soap and poke some small holes in the box. The holes will release the fresh scent in your car.
