HELP STOP MYSPACE

Here are my thoughts about the website Myspace.com:

If you haven’t been there, chances are you heard about it from a friend. Either that or you’re from a different planet. It’s a place where little kids and lame adults signup and compete for “Friends”. Myspace is horribly ridiculous! It has way too many emos, some of the worst bands, and some of the ugliest people.

Myspace is an emo playground! Emo (n.) Genre of soft-core punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who don’t smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarves (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 th ‘s of the face at any angle. Myspace is backing emos and it needs to stop, having a mop on your head is not cool. They need to open their eyes and accept the fact they’re weird, but even if they did open their eyes their hair would cover their view.

Myspace Bands, HAHA. Why HAHA? Because the bands on Myspace are tools. They promote self infliction, and they flat out sound horrible. All their screaming is non sense.

The "Myspace Angles". The myspace angles consist of someone who would destroy a camera with their ugliness but take pictures of themselves at certain angles to cover-up the hideousness. The Myspace angles are often used by girls. Some famous myspace angles are:

  • Head and Shoulders: This is when the person looks into the camera at and angle only exposing their head and shoulders and extending their neck so the rolls under their chin can flatten out. (Often used by heavier myspacers)
  • The Down and Upper: The camera is placed at a low part of the body and is taken upward showing the surface of the body and a glimpse of the face. (Often used by the uglier myspacers)
  • The Motion Blur: It’s an ordinary picture but edited in an image editing program. It is loaded with blur to the point all you can see is a silhouette of the person. (Often used by the fat and ugly myspacers)

Myspace is just one big popularity contest, for kids to see who can get the most friends and then brag about it at school. All the conversations between friends on myspace are meaningless. The average comment consist of:

  • Thanks for the Add
  • Wassup
  • Happy (Fill in Holiday )

To sum it up Myspace is useless. The site design sucks. Tom’s a genius, after all he thought of a scheme that involved kids and their social live. He’s rolling in the dough. Props to Tom for that one. But personally I will never go on myspace.com and if you have a myspace and live in it more than you do home you are a L-O-S-E-R and should be hit in the head with a hard metal object. Preferably a socket wrench. (Just kidding about that) BUT SERIOUSLY PEOPLE! HELP ME STOP MYSPACE.COM!!!

If people want to do a stupid thing like that let them.
Just because you dont like something and believe its stupid doesnt mean it should be shut down.

Myspace is an experimental internet by product of technology that is surely not yet mature. But how were cars in 1905? I understand you think what you think about it. However I cannot resist to the temptation to compare your comments to that of the XVIII century british luddites who were set about to break every last machine they could find as you would want to erase internet creativity.

Those are all good (and funny) opinions, but not a good excuse at all to shut down the site.

your definition of emo is wrong.
emo isnt tight pants and parted bangs.
its a style of music that derrived from punk and hardcore. Not melodrematic whiny mall rock.

As much as I would love to take Myspace down; realistically we can’t. What I would like is for them to be vigilant on the types of things that go on there. Children as young as six years old with myspace layouts, teenagers promoting sex, violence, and gangs. There should be some sort of filter that would not allow kids 17 and younger to access that site, they should really think about making it practically impossible to access without a credit card, driver’s license, something. Afterall, what the heck does a six year old want a myspace for? I know many kids ages ranging from 6 – 17 on that place and have seen the messages that they post and the invitations for fights, sex, and you name it. I’d love to find out what I can do to help.

Despite “Pierre’s” attempt at correcting the definition of emo, the site is correct. Emo needs to stop. MTV is not helping, and is only adding to this useless culture. Basically, if your a guy and EMO, you wear tight womens pants, have long greasy hair covering the zits on your ugly face, and spend most of your day blogging on myspace or facebook, when your bored with that you go hide in a dark corner and cry. If your a chick and EMO, kinda the same but your most likely 50 to 80 lbs over weight, and defend yourself’s poor image (greasy long hair hiding you pimpled fat ugly face) as being part of being EMO. Myspace and EMO must be stopped, including the whiny EMO music. Its not music!!! Go out and get a life, get off your computer, make REAL friends!!!!! The rest of the world does not care about you! Only your true friends need to know how cool the party was you were at Friday night, and you can tell them via IM, e-mail, text or phone call. Please, if you have a Myspace account, shut it down and go out! Stop hiding behind your computers.

Myspace is a way for Army wifes to talk to there husbands while there over seas. and its not just for kids. Most of my family live in diffrent stats and that is how we talk. And how we share pics with eachother. So no myspace is not useless its a way to talk to your family and Husbands while thier gone.

i do understand what you are saying about people not interacting with other real people, but you are being kind of biased. Everyone has their own feelings about it. but i just have to say that your descrition about the photos is so true!! I seriously laughed out loud when i read it. :) but myspace has helped alot of people get in touch with other people.

I don’t think Myspace should be shut down. Its a place where people can interact in their free time without having to call each other on the phone all the time. Even though some people take it to all different kinds of extremes. Competing for the most friends. Trying to look good at different angles just to appear more attractive. And some of the bands aren’t that great. Then the most simplest thing to do is not go there. There are a lot of good bands on myspace even just looking up your favorite song. They have a lot of artists on myspace that you can just look up and listen too, that either haven’t hit the stores yet or haven’t been signed so its a chance to hear them on this website. It depends on the person too. You have the people who can’t wait to take pictures of themselves or their friends every second just so everybody can see how cool they are in their little world. but then you have the people like me who just like to create a page, who is creative and its a site you can put different pictures on from photobucket. I don’t think people should spend so much time in trying to protest against myspace. Go live your life and to tell people and actually spend the time talking about it and writing it is pretty much the same thing as saying anybody who spends their time on myspace is a loser. Why take the time. If people enjoy themselves looking around at people pages once in awhile or trying to find a friend you haven’t seen in the longest time whats the harm. everybody is different. People have different hobbies. Why take that away from them. You should maybe take a look at it from a different angle. For an example. Someone who shattered their knee who isn’t fully prone to their bed but can’t do the things he likes to do for a while or go out. Myspace is something that can keep him motivated. A lot of people think myspace is just a punk rock emo based website with crappy music and tight jeans and people who think their too gorgeous for mankind but its not all like that. Try looking at the whole picture. There are some really good people on here who maybe are just passin time waiting for their friend to call or bored and it gives them something to do. -peace

I think that Myspace should be off limits to everyone especially minors. You see I’m part of the LDS faith (please don’t riddicule me for being Mormon) and I’ve been told to be wise while websurfing and have been told by my mom never to go on Myspace, and I’ve read stories on kutv.com that include rape, suicide and kidnappings. So yeah it’s a very dangerous website indeed. No one should suffer from this monstrocity.

i have a stepdaughter who quit school at 15 and instead of trying to get online and use her time to get her high school diploma all her time is spent on you got it “myspace”. We have tried locking her out of the computers, but she just runs away and now at almost 18, she is still without a high school education and still with a 13 year olds mind and still on myspace.com, sitting around eating all day, fantasizing with other people on myspace. this site needs to go away.

I agree 100% with this article. I have a Myspace page but I haven’t been on it in nearly a year (well, not until recently anyway). I used to have 214 “friends”, but when I checked on it a few weeks ago I had 140 “friends”. Bummer (sarcasm). I am SO over that site, all I see on it nowadays are emos, talent-free bands, and people who look like they escaped a lab experiment gone wrong. None of them should be allowed to own a camera, or be allowed outside in the daylight. Myspace is so 2006, and guess who’s next in the social network hall of shame? You guessed it: Twitter.
