Stop the Hate

Make a change.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has reported that membership in the Klu Klux Klan and other militia groups are steadily rising (Toms).  The government does not stop hate groups from convening.  Is this a freedom of speech or a freedom of hatred?  For the government to allow this type of behavior to continue is wrong.  Not only is this morally wrong, but it is ethically wrong.  To spell it out from both ends of the table, the government needs to stop being concerned with the freedom of speech laws, and set some higher regulations for hate groups.

Hate groups are a major problem in the United States.  Hate groups make up the majority of the crime rate in America.  The Federal Bureau of Investigation reports 7,624 incidents, and 9,006 offenses committed in 2007 (Federal Bureau of Investigation).   The government should pass laws to ban hate groups.  These groups stand for pure evilness, and pose strong threats to the youth in America.  Hate groups try to brainwash our children into believing in something that is wrong.  Why should these groups be allowed to make people be afraid of being themselves?  Doesn’t the United States also give the right to be African, or to be Mexican, or to be gay, or to be anything one wants?  That is why this is the land of the free, because everyone is suppose to be free to be anything he or she wants and desires to be.

If there were bans placed on hate groups, there would be less hate-oriented crimes.  At the same time though, there could be more hate crimes committed by those who choose to rebel and show no respect to authority.  This also could draw more attention to their issues, and shine a spotlight out, saying, “Hey let’s break these laws.”   Opponents also state banning these groups would infringe on their right to assembly.  While this might be the case, would most citizens want their children growing up to think it is okay for the Klu Klux Klan to convene at a local courthouse, or that it is okay for them to go join their fellow brothers at the local park for a cross burning ceremony?
