The Environment

What people don’t notice is that in their everyday lives, they are unknowingly destroying the environment. If everybody just pitched in to help then the world would be a much better place. For example many people are complaining about petrol prices, if they made their car be able to use gas (or if they are really rich they could buy a hybrid car), they would save on money and not pollute the environment that much as which a petrol or diesel car would.

People should cut down on using everyday appliances like TV/s, radio, computer/s and lights because homes get their electricity from fossil fuels not with the exception of the families which have solar panels. The bad thing about fossil fuels is that when they are extracted carbon dioxide or CO2 is released into the atmosphere. Also when oil refineries are used they pollute the water and air. Many times when people walk into a room they just on impulse turn on the light and forget to turn it off. Whoever does that wastes a lot of energy and electricity. To make the environment better I would have shorter showers (e.g. from 10 minutes to 7 minutes), or just use cold water instead of hot water. Another comfort I would sacrifice to help Earth is watching less of TV or using the computer less.

Also I might give up wearing soft cotton shirts because to harvest the cotton plant, the growers use DDT to stop pests eating the plant. Another point being made is that some companies who make cotton clothes use child labour to make their products. Don’t use too much of aerosols as when aerosols are used they release carbon dioxide into the ozone layer. Instead of driving in a car you could use public transport e.g. bus, train … or organize a carpool.

If people put in the effort to walk to the bin instead of being lazy and dropping the rubbish on the ground. The environment would have a lot less litter and be much healthier. When rubbish or litter is dropped onto the ground, if it is the packaging of junk food or a plastic bag it could take up to 50 years to breakdown but if it is something organic like an orange peel it would break down but just because it is biodegradable does give a reason to litter. Also when using shopping use cloth bags instead of plastic bags as not only does this help the environment it saves money because some shops like Aldi don’t provide the plastic bag for free as you have to pay for the plastic bag.

If everybody just lent a helping hand and contributed a little bit to preserving the environment. Global Warming wouldn’t have happened and all this weather wouldn’t be happening. Everything or anything you do has an impact on the environment. For instance even something small like dropping a plastic bag on the ground or happily watching TV for 24/7 will be bad for the environment.
