The Most Serious Global Problem: Starvation

Starvation is the most serious problem that every one of us are facing this moment.

S Living in a middle class family, I have never felt hunger. It is because my parents prepare food for me all the time. Conversely, have you ever thought of the people in the third world? They are not as lucky as we can. They won’t have parents to prepare food for them. And what they receive is starvation. They have to bring along with hunger until they die one day. On the average, a child under five dies every 5 seconds as a result of starvation, 700 every hour, 6,000 each day, 6,000,000 each year and the serious thing is that 60% of all child deaths.

After talking something terrible, let’s talk about how food is important to us! We have 7 important food substance which we should obtain right amount and right proportion. In each meal, we should not neglect one of them. For carbohydrates, it can provide us energy or as energy reserve. For protein, it helps us growth and repair. For fats, it is used to form structural materials or protect our organs. For water, it evaporate to cool down our body temperature. For vitamins and minerals, they can prevent us from deficiency diseases. Last, for dietary fibre, it is used to prevent us from constipation.

And what the people in the third countries suffered is malnutrition, the opposite of over-nutrition. You can see the bones are shown clearly under the skin, but they have a big stomach because of the bacteria. Why can you see the bones clearly? Do they keep fit? No, the reasons are the carbohydrates, the subcutaneous fats and the muscles that made up of protein are used up. They can only live by eating rubbish, leaf, grass, or tree.

As I have mentioned, why would I say starvation is the most serious problem? But not the others.

For global warming, people in this decade are given urged to improve their situations. Nonetheless, have you ever thought of the beginning of global warming. It is greenhouse effect which made by the greenhouse gases. And most of the greenhouse gases are made by you and me. For the unstable government, if you have a great idea towards politics, your country will be powerful very soon. For the singers you admired suddenly, you can choose another one.

Nevertheless, you may say that people in the third world cannot purchase food because they don’t receive education from professionals. In fact, who don’t want to receive education from professionals? Also they can’t even get a chance to study the words. If you were them, what would you feel?

starvation is a serious global problem. Not only does starvation affect the local regions, but also the world. Do you know there is a high population density in these places. If we give a hand to them, we may be benefit from them. In a simply way, if we educate them how to use simple methods to grow food, they can earn money by selling their products. Local people can be employed. And they can also confront the problem of starvation by themselves. We can improve the problems of the locals and also us. They can have a better health. They will not face hungry anymore. They will have money to purchase their necessities, so they can have a better living environment. For us, we can use cheaper cost to buy food or raw materials from them.

In fact, starvation happens in the third countries just an example. Even if the developed countries, there can be somebody facing the problem of hunger. However, solving this problem isn’t difficult, you can improve this problem by donating money. You can donate $10 a month, $100 a month or $1000 a month. Even a small amount of money can improve the problem of starvation. If I were you, I would choose to donate food or clothes to them. This can prevent corruptions happen in the companies or corruptions happen in the unstable government.

As you can see a very simple way can let them have a better life, at least they don’t need to feel hungry all the time. Giving people a hand not only can help the others, but also you — yourself!

Good topic, very informative and well-written. It’s so sad to see those bony and mal-nourished kids from Ethiopia on tv. Your article teaches society that we should be grateful for all of our blessings even though we sometimes complain when we have everything and then there are the others who are not as fortunate as we are than can have a hot meal every night… this deserves to be on hot content.
