The Nigerian Child Today
On the plight of the Nigerian child. It highlights the efforts that have been made to better the lot of the Nigerian child. It is more or less an attempt to draw the attention of the world to the bad situation.
Children are the heritage of the Lord Almighty. Children of all nations are the future. The Nigerian child is Nigerian child is Nigeria’s future. I will describe the Nigerian child as one having no tribe, language, sex ,age, financial status, caste, ethnicity, etc… so as to rule out all forms of discrimination. There is only one point of concern. The nationality being Nigerian. If we are all seen as “THE NIGERIAN CHILD” then we will be one. Tomorrow, the Nigerian child will lead the country, manage industries, educate others run refineries etc…
Nigeria is the giant of Africa, blessed with many resources, the Nigerian child being the greatest. How much has Nigeria invested in us to expect our very best in future.
First I must show gratitude and appreciation to all that deserve it. I want to thank the president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (GCFR) and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Thank you for inaugurating the Nigerian Children’s Parliament (NCP),the passing of the bill of rights on the child and the May 27th children’s day celebrations. It is a real present for the Nigerian child. I am very appreciative of the effort of the Federal Government and all our first ladies. Their projects have assisted the Nigerian Child enormously also want to express my sincere appreciation to UNICEF and other international organizations working for the welfare of the Nigerian Child. To all other NGO’s and child friendly organizations, keep up the good work.
Done with the compliments, let us face the issue at hand- the plight of the Nigerian child and our tomorrow. If we realize that the chain is no stronger than the weakest link, we will rethink. This article should create an opportunity for Nigeria to rethink this weakest link. In a country where 90% or more of the children are of poor parent, then the Nigerian Child is living in dire poverty.
Let us not be beguiled by the children living in affluence, cause the world is not. Hence a statement like “Nigeria is not conducive for children”. The truth will always prevail and we should not ignore it. Why should we be poor, why should we suffer. I’ll tell you the present situation of the typical Nigerian Child.
· A child trudging along bearing a weight of goods. A weight of the family problems-a share, a must sell before nightfall. The child is immune to rain and shine and sleeps on the streets.

Human Rights must be fully established as a priority before you can hope to secure economic Justice. I challenge your attitudes in that you are only interested in your own family and friends….what if I asked you about your concerns for the least amongst you? How would you treat them? For example how would you treat a gay Nigerian?
