Today, the First Day of December, 2009 is the World AIDS Day. It is meant to raise your awareness against AIDS and to support the cause of those 33 million people who suffer from this most dreaded disease in the world.
It is shocking to note that in the US alone, every 9 ½ minutes, a person is affected with HIV+, the virus that causes AIDS. Every year 14,000 people succumb to AIDS. More than 1 million people are infected with HIV+ and 1 million people have been diagnosed with AIDS.
Therefore, World AIDS Day is a wake up call to those people who are suffering from AIDS, to spread awareness against AIDS, to set an example for others and to regulate and discipline their remaining life.
In the case of other people who remain healthy and have no HIV+ or AIDS, it is equally important to spread the knowledge about AIDS among them with a focus on awareness, on abstinence, on monogamy, on condoms and on drugs.
Focus on awareness means spreading the knowledge about the dreaded virus HIV+ that causes AIDS. Having sexual intercourse with more than one partner or committing adultery and perverted forms of intercourse, result in sexually transmitted diseases that lead to HIV+. It is equally important to know that transfusion of HIV+ infected blood, breast feeding by a mother who is tested positive for HIV and having AIDS etc will cause HIV infection.
Avoiding intercourse or abstinence from intercourse is the best method for not becoming a victim of HIV+ or AIDS. Since there is absolutely no scope for infection, avoiding intercourse is considered as the best method of preventing HIV infection and becoming a victim of AIDS.
Monogamy is yet another method in which you confine your sexual relationship with a single life partner or spouse that helps you from becoming a victim of HIV+ and AIDS.
Using Condoms during intercourse will help you from getting infected with HIV+ virus or becoming an AIDS victim.

Spreading awareness against the use of drugs is another important step; while consuming drugs, the drug addicts invariably use needles that may lead to infection of HIV+ virus.
With a focus on all the above mentioned factors, awareness should be spread among the people through counseling.
There is yet another important issue that requires your consideration and attention on this day. Generally we always frown at the people infected with HIV+ virus or having AIDS. Going a step further, we invariably treat them indiscriminately and avoid them as if they are untouchables. But they need our sympathy and deserve our attention. No doubt, knowingly or unknowingly, they have become victims of HIV+ or AIDS, for which we need not ostracize them. We know pretty well that mere touch and physical contact with the AIDS victims is in no way harmful and injurious As human beings they have got their own rights to live in this world. Hence, they should be treated as humans at par with us with utmost dignity.
Besides spreading the awareness against HIV+ and AIDS, it is equally important to rehabilitate the AIDS victims for which funds are necessary. Hence, we have to liberally contribute to the International AIDS Fund.

It is always good to be aware and be careful. This epidemic alone should scare the wits out of the sexually promiscuous and the needle sharers. Good article!
