Think About Nature
Think About The Animals – Don’t Be Selfish.
I once wondered why people hunted, killed and poached animals. Then I came to know, the selfish reasons behind these horrible deeds. I decided to write a short essay to explain the terror.
A Case for Endangered Species
Many innocent animals die every day in this world because of humans. They too have a right to share and live on this planet just as much as we do. At least 16,000 species are threatened with extinction including 12% of birds, 23% of mammals and 32% of amphibians. Humans are directly to blame for this.
Each animal has its own purpose for being on the planet. Unknown to most of us, they are a delicate but vital part of the entire ecosystem and make their own contributions to the food chain. Each species is a link in that chain. Extinction of any one species means breaking the link. Pandas, Koalas, African elephants, Bengal tigers and many more are on the verge of extinction. Unfortunately, many marvellous have been eternally lost. There are thousands of species in the rain forest that are yet to be discovered. Some of them spend their entire lifetime on the canopy of the rainforest without ever touching the ground. They are indirectly threatened by the changing environment and deforestation. What a pity if they would die even before being discovered and catalogued. They need to be protected and/or rehabilitated which can only happen with public awareness. There are people who are making heroic efforts to save these animals. These are the people who are truly helping out the wildlife world.
One of the biggest reasons why animals become endangered is because they are hunted and poached. They do this for their fur, food, decorative & medicinal purposes and, of course, for money. Pollution too plays a big part in driving them to extinction. Even irresponsible littering could kill many animals. For example, human litter, if eaten by the brown pelican could make it sick and may result in eventual death.
Would it not be a pity to see the beautiful and majestic tiger, the king of the jungle, appear from behind thick foliage only to disappear into thin air forever? We need to preserve these marvels of nature, not lose them. Together, we can ensure that future generation enjoy the wonder and majesty of our beautiful animal kingdom. Are you up for the challenge?
