True Environmentalists Say No to Carbon Offsets

As an extreme environmentalist, and most of us who are truly organic or environmentally minded, purchasing carbon offsets is not a solution to the damage you are doing to the environment. In simple terms you are giving money to other environmental programs, however not lessening your own impact to the problem you are creating yourself. The calculator lies to you that you have not placed those carbons in the air, because you gave them money. You are merely lying to yourself and others.

It is giving you the opportunity to continue to damage the environment with a higher level of a carbon footprint. However it is trying to make you feel good about what you are doing because the money is going towards environmental programs. In all reality you should be offsetting your own carbons by cutting back, as well as contributing to those other programs. Not one or the other, but both methods of participating environmentally.

I am in many environmental forums and receive many environmental newsletters, and most eco minded individuals are against this type of carbon offset buying. It is not solving any of your own issues and what you are contributing yourself.

I find it very alarming that these sorts of individuals and business’s are immigrating inside the environmental movement, but are not fully green or dedicated to participating by cutting back their own emissions. They are not willing to go the extra mile by contributing how they should be by composting, recycling, limiting travel, and any other sort of carbon footprint they are generating.

The green movement or environmental movement is meant to be taken seriously, and you are meant to make sacrifices. These sacrifices involve more then taking out your wallet and giving money to an environmental charity. People are buying their way into the green movement this way, and not earning their own keep.

I take a stand against these individuals and business’s, and so do most extreme environmentalists. I can guarantee you that I will not be the first or last to discuss this outrage of abusing our environment with a dollar bill.

Some have never learned that some things can never be bought. Our earth, our health, our children’s future and health on this planet can not bought with your carbon offset money. All I can hope for is a better hope and future for this planet, and that more people like myself will take a stand against the purchase of carbon offsets.
