United Nations White Ribbon Pledge

An article on the United Nations White Ribbon Pledge, meant to inspire and educate people about the domestic violence in India and many other countries.

I write in pain and deep concern, I write here hoping for a change, I write in the hope that you spread this message to the entire literate and illiterate world alike. I write the following message here…

In request to all my fellow beings, to consider the pledge against domestic violence. In many countries, like ours, the marriage and social system have given scope for domestic violence and male dominance, especially against women and kids. This form of aggression, in physical or emotional form, is to be condemned. Forms of psychological violence, like “silent violence”, have no clear solution through law enforcement, except for the people to make a conscious decision to oppose it in all forms.

Women are the essence of a community, they are god’s precious creations created to exemplify the values and ethics of humanity. They are a symbol for patience, perseverance and unconditional love. They are equals in everything if not superior and have every right to be equally respected in the crowd. There has been so many cases of domestic violence for reasons untold and in spite of all the campaigning done and all the protective measures taken to curb it, it still manages to pop out as an issue each time a Male goes into an immoral mood. Women have no reason to be victim to such inexplicable treatment. They reflect the beauty and trust of a relation, of a community and of the mother country herself. Male dominance can no more be accepted as it is a naked truth that there is no superiority and all are equals.

November 25 was declared as The White Ribbon International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by the United Nations. During the period surrounding this date, men and boys especially, are encouraged to pledge “Not to commit, condone or remain silent on violence against women”

I request you all to consider to pledge “Not to commit, condone or remain silent on violence against women “.Let us show our commitment to this cause. Your support may make the difference between “Can we bring about a change?” to “We can bring about a change

Several men from Malaysia, Western Australia and India have tirelessly worked on a web link to facilitate the White Ribbon pledge to be made online – this site was officially launched on White Ribbon Day 25th November 2008.

The hope is to gather a target of 2008 on-line pledges within the official 16 days of activism starting from Tuesday 25th November.

The aim is to MAKE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN A THING OF THE PAST and A NOTHING OF THE FUTURE.

So let us join hands in unison to abolish one more social evil for eternity and ensure a peaceful life for every woman born.

Please spread the message to as many humans as possible, let’s make best possible use of this World Wide Web.

As I always say… to get the change, let’s be the change.

Hoping this is a start to many more such beneficial campaigns.

Wishing luck to you and the United Nations

Yours,

With humanity.
