Vegetarianism

I am a vegan trying to convince everyone else to become one.

Meat should not be eaten since it can drastically affect your health. Today in America, heart disease is the leading cause of death. Heart disease is caused by cholesterol, clogging up our arteries, making it difficult for blood to flow. Every forty-three seconds, a person is killed from heart disease in the United States of America alone. More then fifty percent of the vegetarians avoid meat to protect themselves from heart diseases. Not only does a healthy vegetarian diet protects you from malicious diseases, it also guarantees a lifetime of good health. I believe in vegetarianism since it can prevent obesity as well. The meat that everyone eats contains tremendous amounts of trans fat, calories, and cholesterol. Obesity can cause heart diseases, and difficulty in breathing. By avoiding meat, you can help yourself stay lean and fit. Give vegetarianism a try and enjoy the healthier, and lighter you. Consumption of meat can cause other direful diseases. Mad cow epidemic occurred when a cow was fed the corpse of another cow. Eating the meat of the cow that ate another cattle could get you sick and eventually kill you. Meat consumption has been strongly linked to other diseases such as Alzheimer’s and cancer. I strongly suggest that everyone becomes a vegetarian to shield themselves from deadly diseases such as mad cow or heart disease. Health isn’t the only consequence of gormandizing on meat.

I am a 4th generation vegetarian, so I know first hand that choosing this lifestyle is possible, and that passing it on can be a living family legacy with major health benefits. People have many reasons for choosing to become vegetarians. Mine had to do with the fact that our family were Seventh-day Adventists, who recommend such a lifestyle for our members based on such passages as the original Eden diet found in the first chapter of Genesis, and the benefits Daniel and his three friends found from returning to this “Eden Diet” as recorded in Daniel, chapter 1, in the Bible. Basically, Adventists view intelligently caring for our bodies as an act of worship we owe to our Maker. Those Adventists who do choose to eat meat generally only partake of the “clean meats” set aside for human consumption in such Biblical passages as Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. About half are vegetarians.

Multiple scientific studies have shown the major health benefits among Adventists that come in part from chosing a vegetarian diet. (We also avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, and the recreational use of drugs.) National Geographic did an article on longevity a few years back that identified us as one of three long lived groups world wide. The other two groups are rather localized, and are unfortunately dying out. Adventists are a Bible-based Christian group that began in New England about 150 years ago and are now in more than 200 countries worldwide, with a book membership of over 15 million. (Many more claim affiliation, however.) Currently, I am one of 100,000 Adventists in North America who are being studied in a major health initiative to find out why we are living so much longer than the average population. While there is individual variations among us, we are currently world leaders in how to live a long and healthy life. A strand of that is the half of us who chose a vegetarian diet.
