Washington State Changes

by Littlec in Activism, March 5, 2009

I know that things are bad but there are changes that could have been made.

I know that things are bad but some of the things happening in this state could have been handled differently. I don’t think that some of the local officials have seen both sides of the issues first hand. If there was a chance that these higher ups could know what was really happening but not being reported, I think that things would have been handled differently. I think that maybe new policies should be put into place to help those who need the help and stop helping the people who don’t.

First on the list is giving known druggies free money, food, and medical. I know that this is true because I used to know someone who got it. This person had a rap sheet and was known for drugs and alcohol. They were known for being a police issue and a runner. This person left rehab, after going to rehab to not go to jail, and went back to using. Not only were they using but the got on welfare. The people at welfare knew that he was a druggie. So he didn’t have to clean up, he didn’t have to get a job, and he got to keep using drugs on the states dime. The part that bothers me is, I know that he isn’t the only person that has gotten this treatment.

There are tons of people who are using the states welfare money for drugs. There is no way of “knowing” if these people are drug addicts. The problem is that the money that is being given to these people is being taken away from police departments, schools, and the people who really need it. The people that are loosing their jobs from the bad economy are people who should be getting this help. The kids shouldn’t be shoved aside because these people are taking the money for their schools away. There needs to be a change. There has to be a way.

The second problem is that if you donate your time a food bank, you get first dibs on the food and apparently can take as much as you please. Ok, the problem here is so easily fixed. Change the policies at the food banks. Easy and done. These people can take as much food as they want and it doesn’t even have to go to their family. What if these people don’t really even need this food. What if they have a real job and the money to buy their own food? There are people taking food from the mouths of people that need it. Isn’t it bad enough that our food banks don’t have enough food to take care of the people who need it, let alone that people are taking it away from people who go hungry without it? Here again they are giving the food to people who are using state money to buy drugs and then taking food from the people who need it.

I know that there are reasons for everything but why is it that they things we need the most are being taken away from us because of drugs. I think that there needs to be a way that monitor these things. I mean it cant be hard to get donations from companies to drug test. If it is donated doesn’t that mean that the company gets a tax break at the end of the year? Why is it that the one thing that we are telling are kids not to do, is being made out to be the best way to get along in life? Believe me it would never be my choice, I couldn’t tolerate the drug part, but they make it so easy to be a druggie. Why not detain them and make them detox? They obviously cant be asked to be accountable from them selves.

My thoughts are that there has to be a way to fight the war on drugs with out funding the drug addicts with tax payers money. I know that times are hard and that a lot of people are in need of help. I also know that there are a lot of people with or with out the bad economy, that would find a way to get a free ticket one way or another. But I think that there has to be a better way. There has to be something that we as sober people do to make accountability a standard. We have to get involved and make sure that the things that are happening are on the up and up. When people are stealing from each other for no reason we need to step up and make it write. We need to stop turning the other cheek. If our law makers are looking for some new ideas I will gladly tell my thoughts…for free.
