Why are We Here 2009

by stephencardiff in Activism, July 4, 2009

The question nobody seems to know the answer to.

WHY ARE WE HERE

I have taken time out to look around at the world, and when you take the time to look, you are really looking at our own destruction brought on by our own consequences. Planes crashing out of the sky because of neglect of safety checks, people engaging in war on the hate of others on the battle field, people stabbing and shooting on our streets. People stealing from others to  better their own way of life, we are all prey for others to insults and bullying in schools and work places. There are some that step on peoples emotions and skills to get a promotion in a job to boost their income so that they can waste it on luxuries that will probably end up stolen by one of the other characters above.

Drugs swindle their way into every society destroying lives and ambitions of others, families being torn apart by the stupidity of their loved ones getting involved in the trade. Drug lords not caring for anything only their money even if some persons life is on the line. Human trafficking and sex trades are on the rise despite the promise of a clamp down by authorities. Children going missing whether they run away or get kidnapped. Bodies of children and women showing up in the strangest of places under the sickest of circumstances, there are people that prey on the vulnerable, lonely, and the elderly.

Racism is a stupid problem to suffer from but yet again their are people that resent another human being from having different colour skin, or their religion or their cultures. I’m not a huge believer in religion but my human gut tells me that the message is to have faith in something rather than have no faith at all. There are people across the world that hate other religions because its not what they were thought and some go to war over it. If we all believed in the same thing and we were all coloured the same, wouldn’t the world be a boring place to be. We travel to experience different cultures of the world and take in the different ways of life, its better than you seen one you have seen them all scenario. We all have the right to survive.

There are people starving in the world because their governments would rather pump their capital into weapon technology and waging war than to help their own people climb out of poverty. There are many countries in the world without fresh running water, in this day and age its disgusting to think that people die of thirst, or die from contaminated water they drink in desperation. There are countries in the world that are still under military rule, where diplomacy is just a word and to utter it would see you being locked up for many years. People that protest in these countries are taking their life in their hands and using it as a barging chip for freedoms that the rest of the world take for granted.

The environment sees animals that flourished 50 years ago are becoming extinct today, we are pumping more carbon into the atmosphere despite the warnings of scientists that this will shift the balance of the climate across the world. Islands that once held the flag of being a paradise are been taken by the sea due to the sea levels rising brought on by the melting of the polar regions. People being relocated or left homeless due to the strengthening of storms and bush fires. Deserts claiming more and more land by the day from the heat of the sun and the lack of moisture in the air to prevent it. We are cutting down the trees by the millions even though we know that they produce our oxygen to breath, so we can survive, governments say that we are pumping more carbon into the atmosphere but yet they permit the falling of trees for trade. Trees take the carbon from the air and turn it into oxygen. Even though we have the technology for cleaner sustainable energy we are still raping the Earth of its minerals.

Hear! Hear! More money for space travel, less money for wars. Let’s make a way out.

We, as a society, seem bent on ridding the world of our presence.
    Good piece.
    Thanks,
    Clay

Stephen we must be tuned into the same radio station! For the last two weeks or so, I have been crazy with these same thoughts. You have expressed them to a T. I expressed mine in a poem. Awesome!!

Great article, Stephen! Although, there is so much destruction created by humans, there is also much good. We are at war for survival against ourselves, always have been and probably, always will be.

People are basically selfish and childish. Just as children, everyone wants his/her own way. Just as children, people are easily pursuaded to do anything, good or bad, by pursuasive so-called leaders. Just as children, people live with a false sense of security and are delusional about the imortance of themselves. They will never all get together and agree on very important and serious matters.

These things we see happening everyday, but yet we never do anything about it, not individually or globally. It all seems to be an accepted lifestyle by choice. I can think of many things that are more worthwhile.

    Great article, thanks for sharing.

There is such a worldwide revolution in communication that it merely appears the world is in an uproar….but actually its the same as its ever been. We just know things sooner or things that used to be hidden are clearly seen.
