One has to cut all the trees in the forest for man’s dreams of building houses and bridges to be realized. And with all this harmful destruction of the environment, you could hardly find a female’s place in it.
If you look at it historically, man is continually destroying his environment, for changes to occur. One should flatten a hill or a mountain for one to build new roads and infrastructure. One has to cut all the trees in the forest for man’s dreams in building houses and bridges to be realized. And with all these harmful destruction of the environment, hardly could you find a female’s place in it. Such decision to create a “major change” in our environment is done by men.
Most women’s place is in the house. She is a mere receiver of what her husband provides for their family, whether he bought organic or inorganic foods, reusable bags or biodegradable containers, largely lies on the husband’s decision. The male figure is often the dominant figure in the home environment. In traditional families, children admire their fathers as a role model more than their mothers. Some mothers may tell stories about saving the environment, but this is not reinforced with their husbands as they would like to talk about cars, mechanics and the latest invention without them knowing it that they are promoting the value of industrialization than the value for the environment. Industrialization is but a fleeting phase in our lives leaving behind its negative effects towards the environment.
Women and mothers should really assert their rights in promoting a greener and healthier environment. If they would only share their gardening expertise, recycling creativity to the world, then there could have been a chance for the environment to be slowly destroyed. Mothers should also assert that her voice should be heard at home by allowing her to spend extra time with her kids in teaching the value of saving the environment.
The home is where everything starts to flourish. We should plant a good seed in our children’s minds. For fathers and the rest of the male species, one should rethink the traditional concept of “change” for the environment. They should hear their wives, sisters and mothers more often with the simple but strong advices in saving the environment. There should also be more female legislators in our government who are wise enough to know the needs of the environment.
