Wind Power Plants

Wind power plants, or wind farms ,could be a major step in energy resource and could power homes by the thousands. Why aren’t we using them already?

Take Tehachapi mountains in California for example they use more energy in the summer,  the wind is stronger in the April to October months than it is for the rest of the year, this is because of the extreme heat from the Mojave Desert in the summer. The hot air rises over the desert and then the cooler air from the Pacific Ocean takes its place, pushing the hot air out and creating a funnel of wind that passes through this mountain pass turning the wind turbines and generating energy for the winter months. At the end of that season it does a flip effect on the way back and returns the favour to places like Montana in the winter months to heat their homes. Pretty smart wouldn,t you agree. The research is vital for this method of energy but it can not be applied to most places in such a fashion.

To put a name to a face Altamont Pass was the first wind farm in California to be set up and is still running today at a higher rate than it ever did as the winds have picked up speed over the years. In the seventies oil shortages forced the development of alternative energy sources and in the 90’s the awareness of climate change grew more concern because we were consuming a lot more fossil fuels and releasing more and more carbon into the atmosphere. The growth of the omissions drove the government to invest in more of these farms and we see them all across Europe and other parts of the world. It is a growing trend to cut back on the omissions and has been welcomed in many contries across the globe. Scientists have discovered how to miniturise these wind farms to a wind vein structure that can be fixed to the side of your home and can power your home for the year. This technology does not come cheap but it would save you a lot of money in the long run and I would strongly advise everyone to look into it and do their part to save the enviornment.

You and I both know the answer to your question, “Why aren’t we using them already?” Major change in any area comes very slowly and is almost always preceded by a huge problem. Then, you have politics, technology issues and money issues. We are on the threshold of a crippling energy problem in this world. It is now that serious attention is turning to this kind of technology.

I’m glad to read an article that addresses such a relevant issue. The use of wind energy is crucial in reducing our dependence on energy made by fossil fuels.
