Your Presence is Your Charity
You don’t have to be wealthy or powerful to be important to the human race. “Do small things with great love”, as Mother Teresa taught us, and you can make a lasting mark on the world.
You can change the world. In fact, for better or worse, you already do, everyday of your life whether you realize it or not. Think about it in terms of Charity and how you impact the world around you. This charity thing is so vogue now. Everybody wants to give. Question is, waddya got and waddya care about? Answer: time, money, expertise… the world.
They say money is the easiest thing to give (if you got some of course). It doesn’t require any effort to give money. You don’t actually ‘do’ anything. But, it’s a serious way to empower others to do something, usually something you couldn’t do anyway, like work on a cure for cancer, AIDS and Alzheimer’s, or protect the rights of people half way around the world, or promote global peace, or fight discrimination, or provide disaster relief, or clean up the environment. A financial donation is an investment in the human race. Small donations from many is just as good as large donations from a few.
Expertise is most fulfilling to many people because you get to actively be a part of something you care about. It really makes you feel valued and appreciated, and gives you a deep sense of purpose.
Time is, for many, the hardest thing to give. Sometimes it seems like there’s so little of us to go around and there’s not even enough time for ourselves. But if you want to make the most profound contribution possible, then donate a living, caring soul.
Everyone is a crusader, we just crusade in different ways. Find the way that’s best for you. Be the “enabler” and donate your resources. Be the “contractor” and donate your know-how and experience. Or simply be “you” and donate your personal being. Whatever you choose, you are a “patron saint” and your Presence is your Charity.
