10 Excellent Tips to Get to Work on Time
There are many reasons that people are late for work. Learn how to avoid the traps that can result in arriving late for work.
When you are running late, it seems like everything conspires against you to make up extra time. Traffic signals seem to endure forever. All of the slow drivers stack themselves in front of your car. All of the police in the world seem to in your line of sight to keep you from speeding.
In reality, if you had started on time, all of these things would have occurred, but you would not have been so keenly aware of their presence. Being on time for work is not hard if you plan your routine correctly. It does not matter whether you go to work in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. There are some tips that may help you to never be late for work.
Screen telephone calls.
One of the big things that slows people down as they prepare for work is unexpected interruptions. A telephone call, no matter how brief, will break your rhythm when you are getting ready for work. With caller ID or voice mail, just make a note of the caller and return the call later. If you believe it to be an emergency, answer it, but only allow yourself about 60 seconds to determine if it is really an emergency or just someone wasting your time. Even if it is a true emergency, if it is not life or death, try to put it on hold until later. If you let people know that you do not take calls within 30 minutes of leaving for work, they will stop calling you at that time.
Assembly everything that you will need the night before.
Waiting until just before time for work to make sure that your clothes are clean is a terrible plan. You do not have to lay them out, but you should know what you will wear to work the night before. Have any appliances that you will need handy and always in the same place to make them easy to access and use. If you have clothes that need pressing, do it before going to bed. Go by the ATM on the way home in the evening instead of on the way to work. By the same token, fill up the car with gas, if needed, before going to bed.
Use two alarm clocks.
Set one to wake you at the time that you need to get up. Put the other one across the room from your bed and set it to go off 5 minutes later. Avoid using the snooze feature on either clock. Make sure they are loud and obnoxious when they alarm. Never go back to bed after alarm two sounds. It is time to hit the shower to wake you up. Adjust your wake up time if you know that you will have extra chores to accomplish before you can leave for work.
