10 Ways to Prevent and Avoid Body Odor

Ideas and tips to help prevent your body from emitting foul odors that could interfere with your life.

We have all had the one kid when we were in school or that one guy at work that always just stunk. I don’t mean stunk at studying or at his job, I mean his smell would torture you. It is human nature to be distracted by foul odors. The person who would fill the air with their terrible scent would draw everyone away and make the idea of being productive very hard to stomach in that environment. In our current society ones odor can make or break their relationships, careers, and social standing. We live in a culture that respects good hygiene and appearance.

The main areas of the body that produce the most odors are the mouth, underarms, and the feet. Usually sweat is the main cause for odors. There are many ways to prevent sweat and odor in general.

  1. Shower- this cannot be stressed enough. Showering is the best way to remove and prevent odor. In the shower anti bacterial or regular soap are the simplest and most effectives ways to remove odor causing bacteria and dirt from your body.
  2. Antiperspirant or Deodorant are great ways to stay fresh smelling and comfortable during the day. Cutting down from sweating and having the right protection from it can really make a difference.
  3. Brush teeth- bacteria forms quicker in the mouth then another part of the body. The mouth for many can be the source of vile stink before any other place. To prevent this brush thoroughly at least twice daily. Mouth wash like Listerine is also great for cutting back on smells and also is a big plus for the health of your teeth.
  4. Wiping your behind after releasing your waste is an easy way to prevent an un-wanted stench. *****highly recommended *****
  5. Food- staying away from certain foods can make a noticeable difference for your bodies’ aroma. Staying away from spicy foods or foods with onions or garlic will help.
  6. Clothes- what you wear not only is a visual appearance but can contribute to your overall smell. Clean clothes that have been washed properly should never give you a problem. If you worked out or sweat immensely you should remove whatever clothes you were wearing and change into new ones.
  7. Sweat- if you notice you are sweating u can do something about it. If no deodorant is attainable you can always use a napkin, towel, or handkerchief to wipe the sweat away.
  8. Gases- the body naturally releases gases. The release of these gases is known as farting. This is preventable in most cases which is very helpful in reducing your stench.
  9. Gum/Mints- back to the mouth, hard mints or mint gum are great ways to quickly save your breath woes. They leave a fresh feeling and scent in your mouth allowing you to be more confident speaking to others.
  10. Shoes- when it comes to your feet there is not much you can do. The few things you can do are always wear clean socks even if you have to change them several times a day. If your shoes have a noticeable odor from your feet, air them out and wear a different pair. Also walking around the house bare foot can reduce sweat on your feet.

There is nothing more confidence boosting then feeling like you look good and that your appearance is up to par. But this can all go to waste if your smell does not live up to your looks. Following these tips can easily make your life much easier and make you much more presentable. All it takes is a little extra time and effort. In the end it is worth it.

These are all relevant, Duke — and even though we hate to admit it, your tips are more needed to be followed as one gets older – I like having mints with me for breath-fresh discussions, and if the other person has bad breath, sharing a mint or two is a good idea.

This was a great article, Duke. The tips are very useful. They are not hard to do either. It would be great if more people would follow them.

Anti Perspirant actually stops sweating – Deoderant kills the smell..I always use Anit Perspirant.
I didnt know about bacteria forming in the mouth faster then elsewhere – good info.

Lol Yes, body odors are not attractive. I know there are a selective few debating this issue. They say that body orders are like aphrodisiacs. They are suppose to stimulate sexual desires, however, I can’t agree with that. I’ve never been drawn to a men due to his unmasked body order.

One thing I have discovered is the type of shoes we might wear. I have bought really inexpensive ones (made in China). When they get wet due to rain, etc, they stink. I heard somewhere it was because of the glue that was used in the shoe.

    Thanks for the tips.

    God bless,
    Pete

It is true that sweat causes many odors and anti-persperent can help to prevent this, but people also have to be aware of the dangers of anti-persperents. They clog your pores to prevent sweating, and enough clogging over time has shown to cause cancer. Its nice to smell good, I use it myself, but people should know the things that companies dont want them to know. They do sell deodorants without anti-persperent in them…..just a thought. Good article by the way

Farting is preventable with a healthy diet or I should say monitoring your diet. Eating lots of bread and soup and sandwiches is good. Rice can cause farting I think. Pasta is good. A balanced diet. Plus it doesn’t matter as much as long as they are not smelly farts. No hard boiled eggs!

Changing socks several times a day also is very refreshing. I like to change socks between sets in tennis matches. It increases one’s level of comfort a ton.

    Good topic and good article.
