12 Ways to Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Here are a few ways you can go to sleep well, because good sleep means a good life.
Good sleep has numerous benefits. It acts as a memory booster, reduces stress and many other problems because your body stays in a state of calm during sleep and most of all it can help you look better too. Here is how you can sleep very well indeed.
- Keep a regular pattern. Regular patterns of sleeping are always important. If you want to go to bed at 11pm every day, make sure you stick to it. Over a period of time, your body gets habituated to the pattern and nearing 11pm, your brain starts sending sleep signals that tell you that it’s bedtime. A regular pattern is always good for your body because irregular patterns like sleeping at 11pm one day, 2am another day and mid-night another day means that you are constantly disrupting your sleeping and this can result in your metabolism constantly getting changed. This then causes different physical problems like headaches, stomach aches or just you not feeling well.
- Take a relaxing bath or shower. This helps to calm your body down and relax your entire body. What is better is that it helps you to associate sleep with a bath or a shower. So the next time you have a shower, your brain wants you to go to sleep after the shower after a while. Also, showers and baths are really warm so your body goes into that mode of getting cosy which increases your need for sleep.

- The hot and cold drinks. Before you go to bed, try a hot non-caffeinated drink in the winter or a cold non-caffeinated drink in the summer. In both cases, I’d suggest water. Try warm water in winters and chilled water in summers. This should help you keep cool in the summer or keep warm in the winter, all which aid the sleeping process. Your body temperature keeps you asleep and if you are too warm then you will just thrash about in your bed all night but you don’t want to shiver off to sleep when it is too cold.
- Keep yourself warm or cool. Like I said above, in the summer, keep yourself cool by constantly hydrating yourself and you may want to sprinkle droplets of water on your bed to keep your body temperature cool. In the winter, snuggle up in a bunch of sheets or a duvet. As long as you are cool or warm in the right temperature, you will get that automatic cosy feeling.

Out of all these very useful tips, the firm bed is the best! I swear by it…..and I still don’t sleep brilliantly!! Then again, I worked on nights for 20 years and now do 9-5, that doesn’t help!
