Akward Situations: Things to Talk About When You’re Running Out
Think the title says it all.
I, for one, hate those awkward silences you get when you’re having a conversation and all of a sudden it comes to a grinding halt.
Here are a few things I’ve learnt to get the breaks off again
- Keep the subjects to things you know are easy to discuss, music, weather, celebrities, be it hating or loving them, ( everyone has an opinion on that! ) fashion ( doesn’t always work, but worth a try )
- Don’t give one or two word answers, if you reply with “cool” or “wow” it’s putting strain on the conversation because the other person has to try keep it going, without building on anything you’ve just said.
- Use “have you” questions, like “have you ever travelled overseas? “
- Question what they say, in a good way i.e Jill:”have you travelled overseas? ” Jack:”no, i wish i had though, have you?” which could build onto ” if you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? “
- If these don’t work, try mixing them up, new subjects, different questions
