Anger – It Clouds The Mind
How to calm down when angry…
We all feel anger at some point in our lives, but have you ever felt white hot anger? Wanting to destroy everything within a ten centimetre radius? If yes, then calm down because if you don’t it could lead to health problems such as with your heart and high blood pressure. Most of all, it clouds your judgement and prevents your mind from being able to think properly.
There’s a saying I always use when I get angry, especially if I’m angry enough where a hole in my wall would not be far from my thoughts. I would say to myself, “Anger clouds the mind and prevents focus.” And you need to say this often, whether it’s something small like an argument with a loved one over something trivial or your day has been hellish. When you’re angry, nothing can be done, you are so focused on that singular thing everything else becomes insignificant and the slightest provocation will send you over the edge.
Anger does a lot of strange things to you mentally and physically. You get tense, and to relieve that tension you want to do something physical. That’s where the, “I want to hurt someone.” Or “I want to break something” mentality comes in. Your heart starts to work harder and your mind will pump adrenaline through your body (This is only a good thing if you’re planning to go to the gym) and eventually the tension might make you break a blood vessel and older folks might even have a heart attack. Anger can also affect sleep, you only think about what or who you are angry at and sleep will take much longer to happen, because your brain is so focused on that one feeling.
There are many ways to calm yourself when angry, especially if you have anger management problems.
- Try taking a really long walk, doing something physical will help relieve some of the stress in your body. Walking is also a kind of sight seeing, look at anything that seems interesting and your mind will go from a state of anger to a state of curiosity.
- Keep yourself distracted, play a game, watch television, biking, anything to keep your mind away from anger.
- Believe it or not, when you’re angry, you can get hungry so eat something and it will calm you down after.
- Take a long nap, when in deep sleep your mind and body slows down and that tension starts to dissipate. Athletes sleep 7-9 hrs after training to rest their bodies this also applies to the mental rest. Resting your brain will let you think properly the next day. After a good sleep you’ll feel more relaxed, even if you’re still angry, it will be considerably less than before.
These instructions can be found anywhere on the web, but I’m just suggesting what works best for me when I get angry. It happens to everyone at some point. There is not one person on this planet that does not get angry, but it’s how we control that anger is what matters. Before you try any of these tips when you’re angry say this first, “Anger clouds the mind, it prevents focus.” It may help you realize that anger is something insignificant and it will pass, the sooner you realize it the faster it will go away.
