Anyone Can Dance

Can just anyone dance? If so why? Is dance different to groups of people?

Being someone who teaches a style of dancing I get loads of question from all different types of people. The question variety from person to person, but often I do have a question thats a repeat offender. The question asked to me most is “Can anyone dance?.” I being someone who have not danced but two years of my life without formal training love to answer this question. I first ask the curious person what dance means to them. If they cannot give a liable answer, then I ask them what does it feel like to move around the floor when your dancing with either me or their partner.

They usually respond to something within the lines of “Most the time I feel nervous because I feel like I might mess up or doing something wrong to jepordize either the dance or my partners enjoymeant. Though, when I do not have that feeling, and we are going good around the floor, I feel exerlirated and full of emotional passion.” My response to them is usually a snicker at first, because everyone has a fear of messing up or doing something wrong, then I simply say do you feel like everyone should deserve to have the feelings that you had while dancing? Most couples respond with a simple yes. I tell them that its wonderful to want to share emotions and feelings with others because that is what dance is about. Sharing your thoughts and feelings, emotions and expressions, love and anger through a world-wide sign language using the body as your writing and speaking instrument. The second most asked question I get is “What does dance me to you?” Dance means to me to let the music flow through my soul and in turn let my soul speak to you through my body. I want to create a powerful and unforgetable connection with my audience that leaves them thinking about their life and the emotions that they carry with them everyday, for them to know that its alright to show emotion and express themselves in anyway needed. That if they cannot verbally or through writing that they can always rely on movement and dance.
